Kohl’s is now requiring masks inside their stores. In a statement, company leaders said beginning Monday, all customers will be required to wear masks. DANE CO. DISTRIBUTES MASKS

Dane County is handing out 100-thousand face masks after county health officials started requiring them in public places. The County Executive’s Office said since Monday, they’ve already handed out over 65-thousand face masks. They said it’s the most extensive free mask distribution system in the region.

HUNTERS SAFETY HITS BULLSEYE

Hunters will be able to get the training they need to head out into the field later this year. The state’s Department of Natural Resources yesterday reversed course and said it will once again offer in-person hunter safety classes. UW UNIFORMS TO CHANGE

The University of Wisconsin’s latest attempt to highlight diversity means the W in the middle of the school’s crest is changing colors. The school yesterday said the script-W will be black this year, instead of white. Athletic teams will wear the new crest as part of their uniforms this year, if sports return at the school.

CREWS RESPOND TO FIRE IN EC

Eau Claire Fire Department crews responded to an early morning fire on Woodland Av. Crews arrived to find an attached garage on fire with one vehicle inside. Two adults were evacuating on arrival and were checked by ECFD personnel. The fire was quickly brought under control while crews searched the residence for additional occupants and prevented the fire from entering the main residence. Fire crews also provided ventilation of the structure and assisted with fire attack, extension checks, and overhaul.

 Wisconsin’s governor says parents should expect to send their kids to school this fall. Governor Tony Evers yesterday said there are concerns about going back to school during the coronavirus, but he said most schools in the state should open by September 1st.   However, he is not saying if that means in-person or online classes. WI CORONAVIRUS POSITIVE TEST RATE SEES DIP

Even with more than 800 new positive coronavirus tests, Wisconsin’s coronavirus numbers continue to go down. The latest numbers from the state’s Department of Health Services shows Wisconsin’s positive-test-rate is just below six percent. It’s fallen steadily since Sunday. DHS reported 821 positive tests yesterday, and well over 13 thousand negative tests. DHS says 295 people are in the hospital, 88 of them are in the ICU because of the virus.

FIRE DISPLACES RESIDENTS OF APT BUILDING

Thirty people in Chippewa Falls need a new place to stay for at least a couple of days. Firefighters say a small electrical fire in the basement of an apartment building on East Park yesterday has left the building without any power. No one was hurt, fire crews quickly put out the fire. But the lack of electricity means people need to stay somewhere else for at least a little while.

DWD CONFIRMS ISSUES WITH PAYMENTS

An audit of the Department of Workforce Development confirms problems in the payment of unemployment insurance benefits.  The Joint Legislative Committee released its findings today after completing a review of reported over payments from April 29th.  The DWD reported that a malfunction in its information technology system resulted in the overpayment.  But the committee’s review indicates the department likely overpaid program benefits on April 29th as well.  The DWD needs to determine  how much was sent incorrectly and report back
