Bald eagle watching days return to Sauk Prairie.  Eagle lovers can see rehabilitated birds released into the wild and also view the eagles up close indoors during live raptor shows.  Wisconsin’s eagle watching season kicks off this weekend in Sauk Prairie.  Kaukauna hosts an eagle watching event on January 25th, Prairie du Chien in late February and Ferryville in early March.

WI PUMP PRICES INCH DOWN

The cost for regular gas in Wisconsin is down four-cents-a-gallon compare to a week ago.  Triple-A says the price statewide is two-dollars-and-42-cents today, while it’s two-56 across the country.  The highest average price in the state is the two-64 posted in Superior.  Drivers in the capital are paying two-37 and in Milwaukee, two-38.

SEMI FIRE CLOSES INTERSTATE FOR HOURS

On Friday January 27th at 10:02 am, Eau Claire Post Troopers and Inspectors responded along with the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department to milepost 28 eastbound for a semi unit which was fully engulfed in fire. Fire departments from Baldwin, Hammond, Woodville and Spring Valley also responded. The driver of the vehicle was able to exit it and was uninjured. FINES COULD PILE UP IF SNOW ISN’T REMOVED

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department would again like to remind everyone with the anticipated snow fall this weekend, that it is not only dangerous but unlawful to plow or push snow onto or across a public highway.   Snow left in ridges or piles on the highway create a hazard for vehicles.  Snow piled on the shoulders may also create problems for equipment during normal plowing operations and increases the possibility of snow drifting across the highway in these areas.

SEX OFFENDER TO BE RELEASED IN CHIPPEWA CO.

The public is being notified of a level III sex offender is being released in our area. 33 year old Steven P Harrison will be released from Racine Correctional Institution on January 21, 2020. Harrison will return to Chippewa County where he is required to live. At this time the Department of Corrections does not have a permanent address for Mr. Harrison and will consider him homeless once released.    Harrison has been convicted of sex offenses involving an adolescent female.

ARREST MADE IN DUNN CO. SUSPICIOUS DEATH CASE

We now have more information about the circumstances surrounding the death of a rural Colfax man. It was on January 15th about about 6pm when the Dunn County Communications Center received a request for a welfare check on a subject in Colfax Township. MAN FACING DRUNK DRIVING CHARGES IN RUSK CO.

A Rusk County man is charged with driving drunk with kids in his car.  A criminal complaint says Richard Rapp drove in and out of a ditch in Flambeau back on January 1st.  Sheriff’s deputies accused Rapp of being drunk at the time and they say there was a five-year-old and a ten-year-old in his car.  He’s facing three charges in the case.

THEFT AND FRAUD TACK MORE TIME ON SENTENCE

A man serving time in Chippewa County for writing bad checks will do more time in prison.  Reports say Ryan Sturz pleaded guilty in Eau Claire County Thursday to theft and fraud against a financial institution.  Sturz was already serving a three year sentence in Chippewa County.  He got another year tacked onto that sentence.

Chippewa Falls wants about 25 more poll workers for this year’s elections.  The city says it expects more voters this year and it wants to be able to cut down on workers’ shifts.  The preference primary is in April and the general election is in November.
