Two crashes kept responders busy on Saturday. One was a bit after 9 on Saturday morning when the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call of a car vs Pedestrian accident on County Road I west of Chetek. Initial investigation shows a female, 35 year old Amanda Hodgson, of Chetek, was crossing the road and was struck by a vehicle driven by 44 year old Joel Hayes of Menomonie. DNC Kicks off in MKE

It’s the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee.  The events last through Thursday featuring speakers and performers that echo the party’s theme of unity.  In a news release, the Democratic National Convention Committee said when we stand united, we can overcome anything.  Officials asked attendees to stay home this year and Joe Biden and running mate Kamala Harris will accept the nomination virtually.  Both President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will visit Wisconsin this week.  President Trump will

Local Cause Close to Goal

An Eau Claire 5-k for Huntington’s Disease has nearly raised enough to meet its goal.  Locals met at Carson Park on Saturday to raise money for disease research with Team Hope Run and Walk.  The money benefits the Chippewa Valley Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.  Event organizers hoped to raise $17, 500 and as of this morning, they’re close to meeting that goal.

Babbette Shines On

A local sunflower field is open to the public.  Visitors can walk through Babbette’s Seeds of Hope sunflower fields, take photos, and even pick a sunflower at no cost.  Typically, concessions, games, and mazes are open, but fewer activities were offered this year because of the pandemic.  According to the Eau Claire Community Foundation website, Babette was a beloved local who passed away from cancer in 2006.  Her family founded Babbette’s Seeds of Hope to benefit other families facing illness.

Parts of downtown Milwaukee are eerily quiet and empty. Today is the first day of Milwaukee’s Democratic National Convention, but almost no one is attending. Earlier this year, planners were expecting 50 thousand people. Now, the crowd is expected in the hundreds. The Wisconsin Center will serve as the online convention’s hub. WI Positive Test Rate Creeps Up Over Weekend

Fewer people tested positive in Wisconsin’s latest coronavirus count, but the state’s daily positive-test-rate went up anyway. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported 685 new positive tests and just over five thousand negative tests. The number of positive tests is down from what the state saw at the end of last week, but the number of negative tests is way down. EC School Board Asks About Masks

No mesh masks, no masks with vents, no bandanas, and no face shields. Eau Claire’s school board is set to officially adopt a mask policy tonight. The idea, board members say, is to make sure that students and teachers wear appropriate and effective masks when they come back to school. Paper masks, cloth masks, gaiter masks, and disposable masks are all fine.

Some Students to Suit Up Today

This is the first day of practice for some high school athletes in Wisconsin. The WIAA says students who are in ‘low risk’ sports, like cross-country, girls tennis, girls golf, and girls swimming, can begin practice today. WI Dems Push for Federal Money to Continue COVID-19 Testing

Wisconsin’s Democratic members of Congress want more federal money to continue testing for the coronavirus. U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin along with congressmen Mark Pocan and Ron Kind, and Congresswoman Gwen Morre on Friday signed a letter to the president asking for a 100-percent match for the Wisconsin National Guard. A Few Cheeseheads Head Lambeau

You knew some fans were going to show-up for training camp at Lambeau Field. The Packers opened camp Saturday, and a few fans made the trek to see what they could. Usually the opening of camp means thousands of people, celebrations, traditions, and packed bars and restaurants. This year, because of the coronavirus, few people showed-up and Green Bay was mostly closed. Fans won’t get a chance to see the Packers in-person at Lambeau until at least November.
