The head of Wisconsin’s election clerk’s association says there will simply be too many absentee ballots in November for many clerks to handle. Oconomowoc City Clerk Diane Coenen yesterday said the difference between the two will lead to delays and possibly problems on Election Day. Coenen is also the head of the Wisconsin Municipal Clerks Association. She says changing state law to allow clerks to count ballots before the polls close could help. Chicago Lifts WI Resident Quarantine

Wisconsin residents can travel to Chicago once again without having to self-isolate upon arrival.  The state was taken off the list today of those covered by a quarantine order.  The order affected states with high rates of coronavirus transmission.  The order did not apply to people going to O’Hare or Midway airports.

Teens Charged with Killing Young Girl

Two teenagers are charged in connection with the killing of eleven-year-old Anisa Scott.  Andre Brown and Perion Carreon are being held in the Dane County Jail after being officially charged in court today.  The pair was arrested last week.  Brown is charged with the killing and Carreon is charged with reckless endangerment and fleeing police.  The young girl was riding in a car on East Washington Avenue in Madison last week when she was shot in the head by a

Fundraising Efforts Underway for Downtown Madison

A fundraising effort is underway to help Madison businesses damaged by looting during protests in May.  The Downtown Madison Fund was created to help those businesses in the State Street area that were most affected when the demonstrations over the death if George Floyd turned violent. Lifejacket Giveaway Makes Splash

Eau Claire, Parks, Recreation, and Forestry is continuing their popular lifejacket giveaways to Eau Claire families. These complimentary lifejackets are presented to families through the generosity of community donations, activity funding, and the creativity of the recreation team. Now, there are only 24 lifejackets left! The only size remaining is infant/child under 50 lbs. This jacket has the infant head support and will be distributed on Wednesday, August 19 from 11:30am-1pm at Fairfax Pool while supplies last.

Possible COVID-19 Exposure Update

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is warning residents of another possible coronavirus exposure at a local bar. The health department says the exposure could have happened at Scooter’s Bar between 11:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15th into Sunday, August 16th. Polk Co. Deputy Charged

A Polk County sheriff’s deputy is charged for allegedly driving drunk in Barron County.  According to a criminal complaint filed yesterday, 48-year-old Anthony Grimm was pulled over for speeding and swerving in July.  The officer said Grimm was slurring his words and swaying while standing.  He refused a breathalyzer and told the officer he had loaded guns in his car.  Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak says Grimm has been placed on administrative leave.

Local Efforts Support Community Causes

The Community Foundations in Eau Claire and Chippewa counties are helping to support local nonprofits with their third phase of the Response, Recovery, Rebuild Fund.  The foundations partnered with the United Way of the Chippewa Valley to review over 45-applications from area organizations.  They’ve so far granted almost 275-thousand-dollars to around 42 local nonprofits and expect to surpass the one-million-dollar mark in the third phase. Donations to the fund can be made on the Eau Claire Community Foundation’s website.

Investigation Into Missing Money

Eau Claire County is taking the next step in its investigation into missing money at the county’s Department of Human Services. The county board last night approved a forensic audit that will look into at least a million-and-a-half dollars in accounting errors. The county says DHS has been over seven-and-a-half million-dollars over-budget for the past three years.
