Free Bridge in Chippewa Co.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is giving away a Chippewa County bridge for free. Cobban Bridge near Jim Falls is over 100-years old. The department says anyone who can move it from its spot over the Chippewa River and maintain it as a historic structure can have it for free. They say a new bridge will go up at the same location in 2022.

Tickets are on sale now for a campout music festival in Eau Claire at the end of the month. Blue Ox Music Festival is hosting Campout in the Pines: September Edition, the 24th through the 26th. Local Campuses Tackle In- Person Classes

One hundred of the nearly 200 people who’ve tested positive for the coronavirus this month in Eau Claire County are tied to UW Eau Claire. The city-county health department yesterday said half of the new coronavirus positives are either students or faculty members. Troops Leaving Kenosha

The troops are leaving Kenosha. The Wisconsin National Guard yesterday said it has concluded its mission in the city. As many as 500 Wisconsin troops, along with soldiers from Arizona, Alabama and Michigan, were deployed to Kenosha to help keep the peace after Jacob Blake’s shooting. Guard commanders say the troops did their jobs, and can now go home.

UW Madison Moves Online

In-person classes at UW Madison lasted one week. Chancellor Rebecca Blank yesterday said the school is moving all classes online, starting next week. Blank on Monday told undergraduate students they could only leave their dorms or apartments for class, or work, or to get food. Now she is saying in-person classes are too much of a risk. Thousands of WI Jobless Claims Still Waiting

More than a half-million people in Wisconsin are waiting on the state’s jobless office. The Department of Workforce Development yesterday said 693-thousand jobless claims are still being processed. Some of those claims date all the way back to March. Lawmakers in Madison say no one in the state should have to wait months for their unemployment benefits. DWD is not offering an explanation for the delay, but has in the past blamed the backlog on outdated computers and a flood of jobless

Brewers Move From Home Plate to License Plates

The Brewers have new uniforms, so the state of Wisconsin is getting new Brewers license plates. The state’s Department of Transportation debuted the plates yesterday. They include a new iconic ball and glove plate, and a cream colored plate with a state of Wisconsin design on it. The specialty plates cost an extra 40 dollars, and can be personalized for 15 dollars more. You can order the plates online.

Presidential Race Tightens in WI

The presidential race between Joe Biden and Donald Trump is tightening in Wisconsin.  The latest Marquette University Law School Poll released today shows Vice President Biden with 47-percent support among likely voters in Wisconsin compared to 43-percent for Donald Trump.  That difference is within the four-point-three margin of error.  For the first time the Marquette Poll included Libertarian candidate Jay Jorgensen who garnered four-percent support.

A Hayward man is enjoying a boost to his bank account. Bradley Madison of Hayward’s recent housecleaning really paid off. After selling a canoe he no longer used, Madison used the cash from the sale to try his luck on some Wisconsin Lottery scratch tickets and Madison’s Supreme ticket happened to be one of the lucky top prize winners worth $1 Million.   Holiday Station Store (10478 State Rd. 27) in Hayward sold the winning ticket.
