Coronavirus Response Continues: EC County Considers Health Ordinance; West Allis Field Hospital Still Empty

The top man in Eau Claire County government says the county may approve the new health ordinance that has so many local businesses concerned. Or, he says the county may follow the city’s lead and put everything on-hold.

County Board Chair Nick Smiar yesterday said no one is sure just what the county will do. Smair says he has heard from a lot of people who oppose the new health rules. Smair did say, however, that if the county approves the health ordinance it will take effect in the city as well.

Meanwhile, in another part of our state the first day for Wisconsin’s field hospital at the state fairgrounds was the same as every other since it was built back in the spring. No one was treated there.

The National Guard opened the hospital in West Allis yesterday. Plans are to take 50 patients, but it is unclear when those patients will arrive or where they will come from. The hospital has enough room for over 500 coronavirus patients. The hospital cost 15 million-dollars to set-up, and has sat empty since it was finished back in the spring.
