Polk Co. Man Facing Charges

A Polk County man is facing charges for killing his brother last week. A criminal complaint filed in Polk County court says the 44-year-old man is charged with one count of 2nd degree reckless homicide after he head-butted his brother and beat him up. He’s being held on a 50-thousand-dollar bond.

Flags Lowered to Honor Fallen Deputy

Flags are ordered at half-staff in Wisconsin today in honor of a fallen Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy. Governor Evers issued the executive order today. It says Deputy Treadwell passed away August 22nd, after contracting COVID-19 in the field.

Special Sessions Addresses Police Reform

The Wisconsin Senate is meeting for a special session on police reform. Last week Governor Tony Evers ordered the session for noon today. Evers wants lawmakers to consider several bills that he says were created to address police accountability.

The City of Altoona is hosting a virtual firework show this weekend. The City of Altoona End of Summer Fireworks will be streamed live on the city’s Facebook page. Organizers say Cinder City Park won’t be open for viewing, and all other events have been cancelled. They say the show starts around 9 p.m.

Gov. Evers Not Welcoming Trump, Arrests Made in Connection to Protests

Governor Tony Evers is urging President Donald Trump to reconsider his visit to Kenosha on Tuesday. The President plans to meet with law enforcement and survey the damage from the recent civil unrest following the police shooting of Jacob Blake. Evers sent a letter to Trump that reads in part, ” I am concerned your presence will only hinder our healing. I am concerned your presence will only delay our work to overcome division and move forward together.” Police say

WI Coronavirus Stats

Wisconsin has 537 new confirmed coronavirus cases, with three more deaths. That’s according to the latest information from health officials. This brings the state total of confirmed cases to just over 75-thousand, with a nearly 90 percent recovery rate. When it comes to the county breakdown, Milwaukee accounts for just over 17-thousand of the cases in the state, with 275 deaths.

Online Learning Still Loading

Officials with the Eau Claire School District have announced they’re postponing the start of all virtual learning one week — until September eighth.  They say this will give teachers and staff more time to prepare for classes in an unprecedented school year.  The number of students enrolled in the all-virtual learning model has slightly increased.  This includes the 100 percent virtual learning model, virtual core classes and the virtual portion of in-person classes.

Local Rallies Draw Crowds

A rally in support of Jacob Blake and racial justice drew several hundred people to downtown Eau Claire this weekend.  Groups that organized the rally included the Eau Claire Justice League, the Uniting Bridges, Eau Claire Rise Up and United We Assemble.  The activists at the rally on Saturday marched from Randall Park to the Eau Claire County Government Center.  There was also a smaller group of counter-protesters also attended the rally and expressed concern over efforts to challenge the

Museum Looks to Future

Officials with the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire have put up the museum for sale.  The officials signed a listing agreement with Commonweal Development to put up the facility on South Barstow for one-point-four million dollars.  The agreement follows the signing of a development agreement with the city for the Liner Site on the north end of downtown, where the museum would be relocated in two years.  The Children’s Museum has been closed since the end of July for financial
