Local Cases Fall, State Cases on Rise

New, positive coronavirus cases are falling in Eau Claire County, but one of the largest increases in the country is in Wisconsin. One infectious disease expert says the spread could be because people aren’t keeping their distance, washing their hands, or wearing masks as effectively as they should. Half of Wisconsin counties have rising COVID-19 trends. Cases in Chippewa and Dunn counties also appear to have fallen.

History Making in our Future

Construction will be underway on the new Chippewa Area History Center near Irvine Park today after the groundbreaking Monday. The building will resemble the Chippewa Lumber and Boom Sawmill that was built in 1837.  The new history center is scheduled to open in early 2022.

Registration is now open for the Festival Foods Turkey Trot. The Eau Claire YMCA and Boys and Girls Clubs are beneficiaries from the annual run. Menomonie Police Warn of Peeping Tom

Menomonie residents are being warned about a possible “peeping tom.”  Police say they have received several reports from the area of South Broadway.  The suspect is described as a white male with a small frame, wearing a dark hoodie, with the hood pulled up. Anyone with any information is urged to call the Menomonie Police Department.

The Eau Claire Police Department is warning about counterfeit fifty-dollar bills circulating in the area.  Police say the fake bills have been used at thrift sales and businesses. The bills look real but have “Prop Copy” printed on the back.

Wisconsinites have a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights this week.  Thanks to a heavy geomagnetic storm hitting the Earth’s atmosphere late last week, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings appear to be the most favorable time to see the phenomena from parts of the Badger State.  Peak time for aurora borealis viewing is between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.  Forecasters say the further north you are in the state, the better your odds of catching a glimpse.

Community Organizations Get Boost Amid Pandemic

Two community organizations are once again reaching out to help Chippewa Valley nonprofits amid the pandemic.  The Eau Claire Community Foundation and United Way of Greater Chippewa Valley have awarded more than 137-thousand-dollars in its Phase 3 Response and Recovery Community Fund Grants to 17 local nonprofits. President Trump will visit Wisconsin this weekend.  The president’s campaign says Trump will hold a rally at the La Crosse Regional Airport around 3:30 Saturday afternoon.  Doors open for the event at 12:30. The president has a second event scheduled at Green Bay airport at about 6 p.m.
