Man in Custody After Fiery Crash

A man is in custody after a fiery crash that ended in an officer involved shooting last night. Eau Claire police say Chippewa Falls police were pursuing a hit and run suspect and drove into the city. EC Police Investigate Burglary

Eau Claire police say last week someone stole a revolver and a wallet from a 90-year-old man before stealing their car and getting away. In the department’s notable case log, police say sometime between 10:00 last Thursday night and 5:15 Friday morning, someone entered the elderly man’s home and took the gun and the wallet from the nightstand before prying open the garage and taking the man’s vehicle without permission.  Police say they’re investigating, but the burglary could be linked

Lettuce Recall Affects WI

Thousands of lettuce heads are being recalled for possible E. coli contamination in Wisconsin. The nearly 34-hundred cartons of romaine lettuce were recalled after packaging in mid-October. COVID-19 Hospitalizations Up in WI

Hospitals across Wisconsin are reporting a jump in the number of people in their beds with the coronavirus. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported that just over two thousand people are hospitalized with the virus. Of them, 396 are in the ICU. But while the hospitalization numbers are high, it appears that hospitals are handling the spike. Mustangs Saddle Up for Online Learning

Menomonie High School is the latest to move classes online because of the coronavirus. The school yesterday said students will learn from home starting next Monday. The hope is to have kids back in class after Thanksgiving break.  District Administrator Joe Zydowsky says 21 teachers and staff members have tested positive for the coronavirus in Menomonie schools. St. Croix Casino Folds for Safety

Add the St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake to the list of places taking some time off because of the coronavirus. Casino managers yesterday said they are closing for 30 days to try and stop the spread of the coronavirus. The casino will be closed starting today. The casino said on Facebook yesterday that the closure is necessary for the safety and well-being of our guests, team members and our communities.

La Crosse Red Raiders Hit Red Light

La Crosse Central High School is going to need a new team name and mascot. The school yesterday said it is retiring its Red Raider nickname. Principal Troy McDonald says it’s something they’ve been talking about for years. He said some people consider the Red Raider name culturally inappropriate. There’s no word on what the new name will be. McDonald hopes to have a list of suggestions by next January.

WI Mink Farms Hit by Virus

The latest focus on PPE and virus containment in Wisconsin is on mink farms in Taylor County. The state’s Department of Agriculture says it is monitoring the farms as they deal with a virus outbreak that is related to the coronavirus. Two farms are under quarantine, they have lost thousands of animals over the past few months. The fear is that the virus in the mink could spread to humans.
