UW Resumes COVID-19 Vaccine Trials

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is resuming their COVID-19 vaccine trial next week.  Thirty-six people got the first of two shots before the trial was put on hold in September after a participant had a serious health issue.  They’re testing the vaccine developed by British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in partnership with Oxford University.  The university will begin enrolling more patients in the trial starting this coming week.

Cashton Man Facing Multiple Child Abuse Charges

Four more people say a 74-year-old Cashton man sexually abused them as children.  Jerome Leuck has already been arrested on October 14th for multiple counts of child sexual assault including incest for events going back to 2011.  The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the new allegations.  Leuck is currently out on bond and is set to appear in court on November 23rd.

Chippewa Co. Coronavirus Cases on Steady Rise

Chippewa County Health Director Angela Weideman says active coronavirus cases are rising week-to-week. Since last week, cases have risen 57-percent, keeping the county’s risk level severe. There were two more deaths in the county bringing the death toll to 13 when last week there were just six. Solar Panels Ready to Shine

Memorial and North High Schools are now the home of 720 solar panels. The Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation held a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday at Memorial High School where school officials thanked the community for their financial support through the coronavirus pandemic. The panels are expected to save the district 20-thousand-dollars in utility costs and students will get the chance to learn from them. They’re set to turn them on December 1st.

Biden Plans WI Visit

It’s Milwaukee, but the rest of the details about Joe Biden’s visit to Wisconsin are still unknown. The latest details came from TMJ4 last night. Their sources say Biden will be at a campaign event in the city tomorrow. There is no word on when, where, and whether the public will be allowed to attend. The visit will be Biden’s second to Wisconsin all year.

Harl-Ey Revs Up for New E-Bikes

The future for Harley Davidson may not be with big motorcycles. The company this week unveiled a new e-bike. A new division at Harley, The Serial One Cycle Company, will make and sell the bike. E-bikes are bicycles with small electric engines that help people pedal or cruise. Harley says the market for e-bikes, particularly among young people, is huge.

Fire Destroys Fall Creek Home

A fire broke out yesterday morning and now four people will need a new home in Fall Creek. Firefighters say the fire destroyed their mobile home. Everyone made it out okay but some family pets died in the fire. Investigators say it looks like a gas heater started the fire.

Clark Co. Authorities Search for Animal Abuser

The search is on for whoever zip-tied a dog’s legs together and left them beside a bridge in Thorp. The Clark County Sheriff’s Department says they found the dog near the bridge on Pine Road on Monday. The zip ties were so tight they cut the puppy’s legs. Deputies say anyone who knows anything about the case should call them.
