The Wisconsin National Guard is ending its biggest coronavirus mission of the year. The guard yesterday transferred control of the Miller Park coronavirus testing site to the city of Milwaukee. The city’s health department will now oversee what is the largest testing site in the state. The guard has been leading the way on testing in Wisconsin since May. Managers at one of Eau Claire’s hospitals expect to be busier after Thanksgiving. Mayo Clinic doctors say they expect coronavirus numbers in the Chippewa Valley

Gun Found at La Crosse Airport

Someone at La Crosse’s airport is in trouble for leaving a loaded handgun in their bag. The TSA yesterday said it found a loaded, 22-caliber pistol in the man’s luggage. No one is saying if he simply forgot the gun was there, or if there’s something more nefarious. The fine for bringing a gun through an airport’s checkpoint is at least four-thousand-dollars.

Arrests Made in Dunn Co. Homicide Case

We now have more information in a Dunn County homicide. It was on November 17th at approximately 3:42 PM, when a homicide investigation was initiated regarding a death at N2564 440th St in Dunn Township. Dunn County Sheriff’s Deputies initially responded to the residence to check the welfare of an occupant of the residence. Deputies located a deceased adult, white, male in the residence. At that time the name of the deceased was unknown. One suspect was taken into custody

Teen Charged in Mayfair Mall Shooting

A 15-year-old boy is charged as a juvenile in connection with the mass shooting at Mayfair Mall.  The teen is facing eight felony counts of reckless injury while armed with a dangerous weapon.  The judge denied the defense’s request to release the juvenile from detention to his family, saying he could not imagine a more dangerous set of circumstances in this case.  Police have arrested two others in connection with Friday’s shooting.

WI Looks to Clear Up Unemployment Backlog

The state of Wisconsin is hoping to clear up a backlog of thousands of unemployment filings in the coming weeks.  The Department of Workforce Development and Google announced a partnership to help speed up claim processing in October. The department’s interim director Amy Pechacek says the backlog will be processed in a matter of weeks instead of months.  The department reported Tuesday that almost 94 percent of the eight-point-two million weekly unemployment claims filed since March 15th have been processed. Former House Speaker Calls for Transition

Former House Speaker Paul Ryan says the election is over and it’s time for an orderly transfer of power to President-elect Joe Biden.  The former Wisconsin Congress member made the comments Tuesday during a virtual conference.  Ryan said attacks against the U.S. election system need to stop and noted the importance of the General Services Administration formally beginning the transition to the next administration.  Ryan says the outcome of the election is settled and further attacks will only undermine our collective faith

WI Secretary of Tourism Resigns

Wisconsin’s Tourism Secretary Sara Meaney is resigning to take a position outside state government.  Governor Tony Evers made the announcement Wednesday.  Meaney was appointed by Evers in December of 2018.  Deputy Secretary Anne Sayers will serve as the department’s interim secretary.

For University of Wisconsin-Stout students in a mechatronics class, the sweetest part of their semester involved creating a candy machine that required all the elements they had learned. Packers Schedule Shifted

 It’s the latest sign that the Packers are pretty good this year. The NFL yesterday moved the Packers and Panthers game to a 7:15 kickoff on Saturday December 19th. It’s part of a doubleheader that night. That game was originally up in the air. The NFL told the Packers at the beginning of the season they would either play on that Saturday, or the following Sunday.
