On Saturday, November 14th, a bit before 6:30 p.m., the Barron CountySheriff’s Department received a call of a car vs pedestrian accident onHighway 63 in Barronett. Initial investigation shows a car driven by 62 year old Sharai Hefty, of ShellLake, was traveling north on Highway 63 and struck 53 year old RichardLauterbach, and 44 year old Jane Lauterbach, both of Shell Lake.Richard and June Lauterbach were both transferred to RegionsHospital in Minnesota with serious injuries. Grants Announced to Help Boost Online Learning

The Department of Administration (DOA) announced that $3.0 million is now available to eligible school districts and libraries through Technology for Educational Achievement (TEACH) Grants. TEACH Grants assist school districts and libraries acquire the equipment and services necessary to build a modern infrastructure system to better teach and support Wisconsin students remotely and in the classroom.  The program provides eligible school districts grants between $30,000 and $60,000. Eligible libraries can receive grants between $5,000 and $10,000.   Eligible school districts and libraries can apply for TEACH grants online at the TEACH website and for more information CLICK HERE.

Quick Testing Site Planned

Eau Claire residents will soon have another chance to get free coronavirus testing with quick results. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire partnered with Memorial High School to offer drive-up, rapid antigen testing over the weekend. They’re doing it again on Wednesday, November 18th. Organizers say the site will be open from noon to 8 p.m.

WI Has Deer Season in Sight

November 21st marks the first day of gun deer season in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says hunters need to register online and carry proof of their licenses with them while they’re hunting. EC Co. Courts Closed Into 2021

Eau Claire County courts are now closed through the end of the year into the next. Judge Michael Schumacher announced the emergency order Friday afternoon saying all in-person court appearances are canceled through January 15th, 2021. Schumacher says all appearances will be rescheduled as phone or video conferences for now. City administrative buildings in Eau Claire are open again today after closing for an employee furlough day last Friday.

UW Engineers Tackle Mask Design

Engineers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are innovating face masks to keep people safer during the coronavirus pandemic. The researchers came up with the Badger Seal Mask Fitter. It’s an adjustable frame that fits over the outer seal of a three-ply disposable face mask and is supposed to keep more particles from spreading to others. The team is currently sharing how to make a Badger Seal, which they say costs less than one-dollar to assemble, on their website.

If you are craving cut offs, cowboy books, and Country Jam, you’re not alone! Country Jam organizers say they’re excited about a 2021 festival. The concert series was cancelled last summer because of the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers announced the 2021 lineup over the weekend including artists Morgan Wallen, Chris Young, and John Pardi who will be headlining the event. It’s planned for July 15th through 17th next year. WI Coronavirus Count Climbs, Death Rate Down

The only positive from Wisconsin’s recent spike in coronavirus positives is that the virus is becoming less deadly. The state’s Department of Health Services reported another six thousand positives yesterday, and another 12 deaths. Since March, just over 26 hundred people have died from the virus in the state. WI Plans for Recount

It shouldn’t take that long to recount the ballots in Wisconsin. Elections Commission Administrator Meagan Wolfe last week said she figures the state can complete a recount by early December. A fire destroys a popular hang out in Blair. It was on November 13th, Friday morning a bit after 9 when a call came in to report a fire at the Blair Haus located at 107 W Broadway St. in Blair. Two adjacent buildings also sustained damages because of smoke and water.
