Gov. Tony Evers today signed Executive Order #98 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for Capt. Durwood “Hawk” Jones. Capt. Jones was a pilot with the 115th Fighter Wing out of Truax Field Air National Guard Base in Madison and passed away on Tues., Dec. 8, 2020 while participating in a routine training mission in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The cause of the crash is under investigation. 

The Wisconsin Department of Health confirms over 3,000 new COVID-19 cases today.  That boosts the total number of cases to over 430-thousand.  Officials also reported 47 new deaths, which raises the death toll statewide to just under four-thousand residents.        MORE FROM WI DHS HERE

An investigation into the F-16 fighter jet crash that killed a Wisconsin pilot could take at least a year.  The Wisconsin National Guard jet crashed in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Tuesday.  The pilot is identified as Air Force Captain Durwood “Hawk” Jones of Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Meanwhile the Air National Guard announced that the 115th Fighter Wing based in Madison is temporarily grounded.

President Donald Trump suffers another loss in court as he looks to overturn the presidential election results.  In Wisconsin today, a judge ruled against the president who was challenging more than 220-thousand ballots in the Badger State.  The judge said there was no evidence of wrongdoing.  An appeal is expected.

Officials at Madison’s hospitals will not require COVID-19 vaccinations of their staff.  UW-Health, UnityPoint Health-Meriter and SSM Health tell WKOW-TV that staff will be free to choose whether or not to be inoculated.  At UW-Health those who refuse the vaccine will have to complete a form and specify the reason why.  SSM Health officials say a survey of its staff shows over two-thirds would choose to get the vaccine. The average cost of regular gas in Wisconsin is up about four-cents-a-gallon compared to a week ago.  Despite the rise, Wisconsin prices remain among the lowest in the country.  Triple-A says the price per gallon in the Badger State is 1.94 while the national average is 2.15.  A peek at pumps around our state shows us that the price at the pump today is a 1.85 a gallon in Appleton, Janesville and Fond du Lac, 1.89 in Madison and 2.01 in Eau Claire. The Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing identified today the pilot who died in an F-16 crash in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Dec. 8.  The pilot was Air Force Capt. Durwood “Hawk” Jones, 37, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who is survived by his wife and two children.  Capt. Police are looking for a person who stole a bottle of brandy and two children’s bow ties from an Eau Claire convenience store. Eau Claire police say a person in a puffy silver jacket and carrying a black duffel bag put the items in the bag and tried to leave. Police say the employee tried to stop them, but the person shoved them and ran. Police went on to say that the employee suffered minor injuries.
