Prosecutors Seek Arrest Warrant for Rittenhouse

Prosecutors in Wisconsin are seeking an arrest warrant for the now-18-year-old charged with shooting and killing two people during protests in Kenosha last August.  Yesterday, the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office said a motion was filed for Kyle Rittenhouse to be detained for apparently violating his bond for not informing the court that he moved to a new address.  The office added that the move makes it difficult for officials to keep track of his location.  Rittenhouse was set free in November

Fall Creek Man Facing Charges

A 25-year-old Fall Creek man is accused of sexually abusing two children at his mother’s in-home daycare. Austin Thoren has been charged on several counts, including repeated sexual assault of a child. According to the investigation, the alleged crimes happened between 2012 and 2014.

Snow Plow Scam Buries Man in Fines

A man accused of running a snow plow scam in the Waukesha area has accepted a plea deal.  Matthew Erickson agreed yesterday to pay a 10-thousand-dollar fine and more than seven-thousand dollars in restitution in exchange for reduced felony charges.  Erickson and his company, “Snow Angels,” allegedly took advantage of over 100 people in nine states, including 28 in Wisconsin. Many of his victims were over 60-years old.

Division Three Winter Championships on Sidelines

Division Three is canceling its 2021 winter championships.  The NCAA announced this is due to low participation numbers among its member schools.  Fayneese Miller, the chair of the President’s Council, released a statement that reads in part, “This was a very difficult decision to make, and we were saddened to do so.  However, none of our winter sports meet the Championship Committee’s established thresholds of participation to hold a championship.”

Budget Cuts Hit Hard

Budget cuts in the form of staff layoffs are expected for the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District. District leaders say this is due to an anticipated one-point-six-million-dollar budget deficit as a result of declining enrollment. The district plans to submit a preliminary budget plan to the school board at the end of March.

A Golden Apple for Local Teacher

A Locust Lane Elementary School teacher is being honored for her twenty-years of service with the school district. Yesterday, the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation presented Melissa Pritchard with the 2020-21 Golden Apple Award. In addition, Pritchard and the Locust Lane School will also receive five-hundred dollars each to be used for educational purposes.

Water Park Capitol Makes Construction Splash

Upgrades are being planned for Wisconsin Dells Parkway due to safety concerns. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is in the early stages of planning a project aimed at reducing traffic crashes along a two-mile stretch of the corridor from County Road A and East Adams Street. Several major attractions sit along this stretch, including Noah’s Ark and Mt. Olympus Theme and Water Park. Transportation officials say the project is estimated between ten to thirteen-million dollars, which will be funded partly from the Highway Safety

The signs, they are a-changin’.  Two new signs on I–94 were put in place in the overnight hours yesterday.  One sign with “American Family Field” has replaced the former “Miller Park” sign, and another now reads “Brewer Boulevard.”

Mother and Child Reunion

 A Wisconsin woman is finally spending time with her newborn child nearly three months after she gave birth while in a coma.  Kelsey Townsend was placed in a medically-induced coma in October after being hospitalized with COVID-19 while nine months pregnant.  Her baby, Lucy, tested negative for coronavirus.  The 32-year-old was recently discharged from the hospital and is now home with her husband and four children.

DHS Reporting Daily COVID-19 Cases Over 1K
