The Governor has ordered the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin shall be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds, and military installations of the State of Wisconsin beginning immediately and ending at sunset on January 13, 2021, as a sign of respect for United States Capitol Police Officers Brian D. Teens Injured, Arrested After Crash

A group of teenagers are injured and facing charges after a crash in Clark County. 18 year old Deven Charles King, from Greenwood, has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 1st offense, with one child in the vehicle under the age of 16. National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

January 11th is recognized each year as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. The Wisconsin State Patrol says human trafficking is a hidden crime because people don’t always recognize the signs or think it could happen in their communities. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Blue Campaign’s largest initiative is hashtag-Wear-Blue-Day in which people are encouraged to take photos wearing blue clothing and share them on social media.

Bridging the Borders

A virtual public meeting is being held tomorrow to discuss plans to rehabilitate a bridge that connects Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Blatnik Bridge opened to traffic in 1961. The Minnesota Department of Transportation says it’s the longest bridge in the state and the third largest in Wisconsin. The City of Eau Claire is sponsoring a holiday tree recycling drive through this weekend. The city says people can dispose of their holiday tree for free at the Green Waste Facility on Jeffers Road between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily. The recycling event ends January 17th.

Community Embraces Closs

 It has been two years since Jayme Closs escaped and was returned home. Closs’ family posted a message to Facebook yesterday remembering the two years since she was kidnapped and marking the day she was rescued. The Closs family says they are very thankful that she is home. They also thanked the neighbors in Gordon, who helped her when Closs escaped. The man who kidnapped and held her captive, Jake Patterson, is serving a life sentence in prison.

Woman Sentenced in Community Theft

It is nine weeks of community service for the Eau Claire woman who stole thousands of dollars from the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as well as from the PTA at Sam Davey Elementary. A judge last week sentenced Christine Busse. If she doesn’t commit any crimes, her felony charges will be reduced to a misdemeanor. Busse pleaded guilty to stealing 33-thousand-dollars from the groups, but she told police she planned to pay the money back.

Chippewa Police Warn of Scam

Police in Chippewa Falls are letting people know they are not raising money to buy bulletproof vests. The Police Department put out the word over the weekend that any calls or letters claiming otherwise are a scam. Someone has been trying to raise money, claiming it will go to the police department. The real PD said on Facebook that it’s a scam, and people should not make any donations.

Home Vs. Hospital

Doctors at one of Wisconsin’s largest hospitals are telling people to stay home with a mild case of the coronavirus. Doctors at UW Health last week said hospitals across the state are full with serious cases of the virus, and they say anyone with mild symptoms should stay home. Dr. Jeff Pothof with UW Health says people should rest, stay hydrated, and isolate even from their families. Most people who test positive for the virus are declared recovered in two weeks.
