Eau Claire is vying for Wisconsin’s Fittest Community this month. The city parks, recreation and forestry department says beginning today through the month of March, Eau Claire and 38 other communities are expected to compete in fitness challenges across the state. It’s ten-dollars to sign-up before March 14th. The winning city gets a trophy.

Black History Month has wrapped up and now the start of March brings Women’s History Month.  Congress declared the first official Women’s History Month in March of 1987.  Prior to that, then-President Jimmy Carter in 1980 designated the first National Women’s History Week, beginning on the 8th of March – which is International Women’s Day.

Investigation Continues After Weekend Fire

Investigators are looking for what started a fire at an empty Chippewa Falls business on Saturday. It took firefighters a bit to put out the flames at the building on West Willow Street. No one was inside, so there were no injuries. Fire crews say the task now is to figure out what caused the fire.

WI Begins Phase 1B Vaccine Rollout

Hundreds of thousands more people in Wisconsin are now eligible for the coronavirus vaccine. Today is the first day that school teachers, day care workers, emergency responders, grocery store workers, and a list of others included in Phase 1b can sign-up for a shot. It’s time to get off the ice. The state’s Department of Natural Resources is telling fishermen to get their shanties or shelters off the ice before the ice becomes too thin. Today is the last day for any shanties south of Highway 64, folks to the north of Highway 64 have two more weeks to move their fishing shacks.

The Y in Chippewa Falls is ready with its triathlon. The YMCA will host an indoor triathlon later this month. Racers will swim, run, and bike all while inside the Y. WI Lawmaker Looks to Define Gender in Sports

The next conversation about gender in college and high school sports in Wisconsin will be around co-ed sports. Republican state Rep. Barb Dittrich last week introduced what she’s calling Protecting Women in Sports Act. Dittrich says the idea is to declare girls’ sports for girls, and boys’ sports for boys. Her plan includes a new co-ed sports category that allows anyone, including transgender athletes, to compete. Dittrich says the idea is not to exclude anyone, but rather to allow girls and women

Brewers Crack the Bat

Things go well when you hit the ball out of the park. The Brewers hit four home runs and cruised to a spring training Opening Day win against the Chicago White Sox yesterday. Christian Yellich did not play, but Keston Hiura. Avisaíl García, Tyrone Taylor and substitute outfielder Dylan Cozens all hit dingers to give the Brewers 7-2 victory in Arizona.

Search for Super Bowl Ring Continues

There’s an online search party helping to look for a missing Super Bowl ring lost somewhere in Indiana. The ring belonged to Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Ron Kostelnik, his son Mike lost the ring about two weeks ago. Ron says he stopped at IU in Bloomington and at a gas station in Greensburg, that’s the last place he remembers seeing the ring.
