Milwaukee Marches, MN Gov. Promises Reform After Latest Police Shooting

 Add Milwaukee to the list of cities that saw protests over the deadly officer-involved shooting in Minnesota. A group of protesters, including Milwaukee Democratic state Rep. David Bowen, closed down a portion of I-43 yesterday evening. The group says they marched along the interstate to show their anger that a Minnesota police officer shot and killed Duante Wright during a traffic stop over the weekend. Suspect and Victim Identified, Motive a Mystery

We know who, but we still don’t know the why of a weekend shooting in Rusk County that left a man dead. The sheriff’s office yesterday identified the person of interest in the case as 59-year-old Scott O’Brien. He’s the father of 36-year-old Jesse O’Brien, who died in a shooting in Sheldon on Friday. Investigators are not commenting on a motive, as they say the investigation is still on-going. Prosecutors have not filed charges in the case.

WI Coronavirus Cases Tick Up, Gaps in Vaccination Efforts

 The measuring sticks for the coronavirus in Wisconsin are pointing in the wrong direction. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported both more positives and more people in the hospital. DHS says 304 people are now in the hospital with the virus. That number was under 300 just last week. DHS is also reporting a seven-day positive average of three-point-eight-percent. That number was just above two-percent last month. New Superintendent Echo’s Old Message

The newly-elected head of the state’s Department of Public Instruction sounds familiar. Superintendent-elect Jill Underly said on UPFRONT over the weekend that the state’s Department of Public Instruction is not going to tell schools across the state to fully reopen in September. She said individual schools will have to make that choice. The state’s current superintendent said essentially the same thing last week. Scooter Discussion Scoots Along

Eau Claire continues to roll with a scooter discussion. The city council last night had another discussion about the rules for scooters in the city. City Engineering Director Leah Ness said leaders want scooters parked in certain locations, and the plan is to track them online. Ness says two scooter companies have approached Eau Claire about bringing their scooters to town. There’s no word on when the city council will make a decision.

City Council Member Makes Shift to State Level

After just one year on the city council, Mai Xiong is stepping down to serve on the state’s inclusion council. Xiong yesterday said in a letter that she is leaving the city council immediately to ‘serve our community in the most impactful way.’ Xiong has been named Vice-Chair of Governor Evers’ Equity and Inclusion Council.

WI DHS Reporting 400+ New Coronavirus Cases

State by State Report Shows WI Infrastructure Needs

 A state-by-state White House report on infrastructure says there are nearly 200 bridges and two-thousand-miles of highway in poor condition across Wisconsin.  Each driver pays an average of 547-dollars per year in costs due to driving on roads in need of repair.  In addition, over the next 20 years Wisconsin’s drinking water infrastructure will require over eight-and-a-half-billion-dollars in additional funding.  The report says about 14-percent of Wisconsin residents live in areas where there is no broadband infrastructure and about 14-percent
