One Wisconsin town is changing its name for St. Patrick’s Day. New London has been changing its name to New Dublin for the past 37 years. The city’s Shamrock Club says there’s really no reason for it, other than to boost the city’s morale.

Eau Claire Standoff Ends Peacefully

A brief police standoff on the Eau Claire’s south side ended with a man being taken to the hospital. Eau Claire Police responded to a call for help at a home on Trimble Street yesterday. Once there, officers had to talk the man out of his home and into surrendering. Officers say the man was in danger, but they are not elaborating.

Green Light for Area Projects

Eau Claire is looking to move ahead with its plans for additions and upgrades in our area. That includes a green light for the Sonnentag Center, the Dewey Street bridge, and Carson Park. The city’s Plan Commission last night signed-off on a new comprehensive plan. Many of the projects in the new plan are the same projects that have been on Eau Claire’s to-do list for years. The full city council will take-up the plan at its next meeting.

Teen Faces Life Sentence

 A jury is now listening to the evidence against a now-17-year-old accused of gunning down his girlfriend in Kenosha back in 2019. Opening arguments began yesterday in Martice Fuller’s trial. Police say he murdered his 15-year-old girlfriend, Kaylie Juga, and shot her mom in May of 2019. Prosecutors yesterday painted a picture of Fuller as abusive and controlling. He’s facing a life sentence if convicted.

WI Coronavirus Snapshot Improves

 Very few of Wisconsin’s coronavirus vaccine doses have gone to waste. The state’s Department of Health Services says fewer than 24-hundred of the nearly one-and-a-half-million vaccine doses given out as of last month spoiled or were thrown away. DHS says 500 of those were intentionally wasted by a pharmacist in Grafton. DHS says the overwhelming majority of vaccines are used before they expire. There’s a plan at the Wisconsin Capitol to end tips for servers and bartenders in the state. Democrats Chris Larson and Francesca Hong are pushing a plan to end the state’s two-dollar and 33-cent tipped-minimum wage. They say servers and bartenders should instead be paid a living wage. Hong runs a restaurant herself. RoboCop Connection in Stevens Point

Stevens Point could become RoboCop’s home. Mayor Mike Wiza has been trying to land an 11-foot statue of RoboCop for years. It was supposed to go to Detroit, where the movie was set, but that fell through. Wiza says Stevens Point would be a great home. RoboCop star Peter Weller is from Stevens Point, and the mayor says it would be a fitting tribute.

Fatal Vehicle Fire in Otter Creek

A man is found dead in a burned vehicle, but no foul play is suspected. It was on Monday, 03/15/21, at approximately 9:24am when the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office responded tothe area of County Road NN, near Sieg Rd, in the Township of Otter Creek, for a vehicle fire. Lawyers Push for Delay of Trial

Nine jurors are now set to hear the case against former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin.  He’s the one seen on video last year holding George Floyd down until he stopped breathing.  Jury selection began last week with opening statements set for March 29th, but Chauvin’s attorney wants the trial delayed.  He feels news of the recent 27-million-dollar settlement with the Floyd family could impact the jurors already chosen and potential jurors.
