Chetek Man Arrested After Search Warrant Executed

On Tuesday March 2, 2021 at 9:05am the Barron County Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at 558 22 ½ Street, Chetek. Taken into custody was Jarel Flory, 32 of this address. Jarel is being held in the Barron County Jail on Possession of Child Pornography charges and is awaiting formal charges by the Barron County District Attorney’s Office later this week. WI Daily Coronavirus Count Adds 300+

Bill Tackles Sports and Gender

Governor Tony Evers is sharing a message with Wisconsin’s transgender kids.  The governor tweeted his message today after a bill banning transgender athletes from participating in girls and women’s sports was introduced by Republicans in the legislature.  In response, the governor told transgender young people that he sees them, they are welcome, they are wanted and they belong.  If it’s passed Governor Evers is expected to veto the bill.

Read Across America Day Illustrates Challenges

It is Read Across America Day, which celebrates books and reading, but also exposes the challenges of low literacy across the country.  Nearly 14-percent of the country’s adult population can’t read well enough to fill out a job application.  Wisconsin has the seventh best literacy rate in the country at 92-point-7-percent, but there are areas needing improvement.  The U.S. Department of Education says there is still a large graduation rate gap between Caucasian and Black students in Wisconsin that needs to be closed.  The

Curtain Set to Raise Again

It’s probably been awhile since you’ve been to dinner and a show, but a Chippewa Falls theatre is hopeful to change that soon. The Heyde Center for the Arts has reopened during the pandemic, but tickets for it’s first live performance since November are available now. Eau Claire is getting a new rooftop bar. The city plan commission approved a new downtown rooftop bar and restaurant during its’ meeting last night. The plans call for 150-seats on top of the building at Graham Avenue and East Grand. It’ll be called the Grand Rooftop Bar.
