Wisconsin’s COVID-19 vaccination program is one of the tops in the nation. WKOW reported yesterday that University of Wisconsin-Madison Professor Ajay Sethi says the state is number three in the country with the percentage of vaccine received to that which is actually administered.  Sethi says Wisconsin is administering around 85-percent of doses received.  Madison takes its first delivery of the Johnson and Johnson COVID single dose vaccine.  Nearly 12-thousand doses arrived at the Public Health Madison and Dane County offices Friday.  The doses

A minimum wage hike will not be part of the coronavirus relief package.  The Senate voted not to add a 15-dollar-an-hour minimum wage as an amendment to the bill.  The vote came after the Senate parliamentarian ruled it couldn’t be included in the bill.  The one-point-nine-trillion-dollar measure is still being debated in the Senate. State health officials are reporting 350 new COVID-19 cases statewide over the last 24 hours.  There were 677 new cases reported yesterday and 539 on Wednesday.  The daily death toll has consistently dropped this week as well, with seven deaths reported today compared to 12 yesterday and 18 on Wednesday.  Since the beginning of the pandemic a year ago there have been over 566-thousand coronavirus cases and more than 64-hundred deaths. The DNR is reminding fisherman that ice shanties south of Highway 64 must be removed this weekend.  DNR officials say shanties located north of Highway 64 can stay on the ice until Sunday, March 14th.  Portable shanties are still allowed, but with warmer weather approaching the ice is not as thick and may not support an adult’s weigh. 

Gas prices are inching up across the Badger State.  Triple-A says the average price at the pump today is two-64 for a gallon of regular gas.  That’s just a couple of cents higher than last Friday but is 34-cents more a gallon than a month ago.  The national average is 2.75 a gallon today.  Drivers are paying 2.71 in Eau Claire, 2.63 in Green Bay, Racine and Oshkosh and 2.60 in Madison, Janesville, Sheboygan and Kenosha County.

Today marks the Wisconsin National Guard’s 184th birthday, and year 183 was certainly one for the history books. UW STTOUT has announced that an in-person commencement ceremony, for graduates only, will be held Saturday, May 8, at Johnson Fieldhouse. Because of ongoing COVID-19 safety protocols, no family, other guests or spectators will be allowed.
