The latest look into Wisconsin’s economic development arm shows improvement. But state auditors say there continue to be problems at the WEDC. A new report yesterday dinged the WEDC for sloppy and incomplete recording keeping, lax oversight, and for not spending all available dollars to help businesses in the state. Lawmakers at the Capitol say the report shows progress, but also shows there are some concerns that need to be addressed.

In recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin today held a virtual roundtable discussion focused on educating Wisconsinites about their rights under the new crime victims’ constitutional amendment enacted one year ago. Participants in today’s event included victim advocates and legal system stakeholders, who addressed some of the ways the new crime victims’ constitutional amendment has empowered crime victims in Wisconsin’s criminal justice process.   Wisconsin health officials are confirming 626 new COVID-19 cases today.  Those cases boost the total number of cases in the state to over 592-thousand.  There were three additional deaths reported today, raising the death toll to more than six-thousand-700. CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM WI DHS.

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) in Winona, MN, is opening two new temporary exhibitions this April. 20th Century British Marine Master Artists opened on April 16, and Water: Shots Magazine Group Exhibition opens on April 30. The exit-68 ramp off of eastbound Interstate-94 is open again after a semi-fire early this morning.  Police say the truck’s trailer was totally engulfed in flames.  Crews put out the fire just after 3 a.m. The ramp reopened around 5 a.m.

A near century old shrine in Chippewa Falls is getting a makeover.  Our Lady of the Falls Grotto Shrine at the Church of Notre Dame is being repaired and restored for the first time in 81-years.  The church says the statues of the Virgin Mary and St. Bernadette will be removed, cleaned and repaired, too.

Eau Claire Transit is encouraging people to reduce their carbon footprint.  Tomorrow is Earth Day.  The city bus is offering free rides Thursday to celebrate.

Add Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers to the list of people who say the guilty verdict in George Floyd’s death is the right verdict. The governor yesterday said the verdict is a ‘moment of accountability.’ He then pressed for ‘sustained and systemic change.’ Evers said nothing can bring George Floyd back. It’s five-and-a-half years in prison for the woman who tried to have her daughter’s father murdered. A judge in Chippewa Falls yesterday sentenced Melanie Schrader for murder-for-hire. Schrader pleaded guilty in the case. The man she tried to have killed told the judge yesterday that he still lives in fear of what could have happened.

People continue to test positive for the coronavirus, but the state’s numbers are trending down. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services yesterday reported a seven-day average of 715 positives. That is the fifth straight day that coronavirus cases have dropped. DHS says there are some concerns.
