Double Trouble for Double Days Owner

Prosecutors in Eau Claire are moving ahead with a criminal case against a local bar owner for secretly serving customers last year. The D.A. filed charges last week against Double Day’s owner Kevin Patterson. The charges say he was serving people inside his bar last March, despite the county’s order against inside service. Police say they caught Patterson serving customers after someone tipped them off. Patterson is due in court to answer the charges next month.

New Phase to Add 2-Million More People

The state of Wisconsin is about to add two-million more people to the coronavirus vaccine eligibility list. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said Phase 1c will include people between 16 and 64 who have pre-existing health conditions. The move follows the CDC’s most recent recommendations. DHS says doctors and nurses in the state have handed-out more than one-and-a-half-million vaccine doses so far. That includes over 600-thousand people who’ve been fully vaccinated.

Family Charged in Marathon Co. Murder

 A father, a son, and a young woman are all facing charges in connection to last December’s murder in Marathon County. The D.A. filed charges yesterday against Jared Carl, his father Shawn Carl, and Audrey Benson for their roles in 20-year-old Christian Schauer’s death last December. Investigators say Jared Carl shot Schauer, while Shawn Carl and Benson helped hide the body and cover-up the crime. Jared Carl is facing homicide charges and is being held on a million-dollars bond.

Stimulus Spending Still Secret

Wisconsin’s governor isn’t giving any hints as to how he plans to spend the three-billion-dollars coming to Wisconsin from the latest federal stimulus package. Governor Evers yesterday said he will host some online listening sessions to get ideas, but those sessions are not limited to the budget. CJ Szafir, with the Institute for Reforming Government in Madison, says the governor should spend the state’s coronavirus relief money on what’s actually related to coronavirus relief.

Judge Tosses Foxconn Lawsuit

A judge has tossed out the lawsuit that accused Racine County and Mount Pleasant of wasting taxpayer money on Foxconn. The lawsuit was brought last month, and said Foxconn failed to live up to its promises to make LCD screens at its factory in Mount Pleasant. The judge dismissed the case last week. Racine County says it’s happy to have the suit in the rearview mirror and is ready to work with Foxconn.

The Department of Health Services says there are 178 new coronavirus cases reported statewide today.  That number boosts the total number of confirmed cases to nearly 567-thousand.  There were no additional deaths confirmed so the death toll from COVID-19 remains at more than 64-hundred. Jury Selection To Not Proceed Today

Jury selection in Minneapolis is being postponed in the case against former police officer Derek Chauvin. Judge Peter Cahill decided to put off the start of jury selection until at least tomorrow while the question of whether to allow a third-degree murder charge against Chauvin is pending.  That charge is currently under review by the Minnesota Court of Appeals.  Chauvin is the former police officer accused of killing George Floyd in Minneapolis.  He faces murder and manslaughter charges after he was filmed

WI A.G. Supports Supreme Court Decision Ending Election Lawsuit

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul is thanking what he calls the outstanding team at Wisconsin DOJ that successfully protected Wisconsinites’ vote.  The U.S Supreme Court today declined to hear the last active lawsuit to overturn the presidential election results in Wisconsin.  The lawsuit was brought by former President Trump in an effort to eliminate thousands of absentee ballots and allow the legislature to pick the winner of the state’s electoral votes.
