Sunday is the 53rd anniversary of the assassination of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel will present a virtual commemoration in honor of Dr. King’s life and legacy.  Remembering MLK: The Man. The Movement. The Moment. will be shown on Easter Sunday on the museum’s website and Livestream platforms.

Wisconsin is vaccinating millions against COVID-19.  Data as of yesterday released by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services says more than three-million-Wisconsonites have gotten at least one dose.  Around a million-one-hundred-50-thousand of that number have gotten both doses which the DHS says is 20-percent of the state’s population.  State officials alert that warm, dry conditions are ripe for wildfires.  In a statement yesterday, the DNR said this weekend when many will be enjoying outdoor activities, everyone should take great care with cooking and camping fires.  The DNR has issued a statewide ban on outdoor burning of trash and land clearance waste.  Find out the details at DNR-dot-Wisconsin-dot-gov.

The President of the University of Wisconsin System wants lawmakers to approve IT security upgrades.  WKOW reports that interim President Tommy Thompson told a state senate committee on universities this week that UW needs funding help for IT infrastructure improvements.  Thompson says the move is needed in order to beef up the UW System against hackers. 

A fire in a wooded area lead to evacuations in nearby homes. It was a bit before 5 on April 2nd, when the Eau Claire Fire Department was dispatched to a wildland fire in the 3600 block of Seymour Road, located on the city’s north side adjacent to Terrace Hill mobile home park.  The Department of Health Services confirms 875 new COVID-19 cases statewide over the last 24 hours.  That moves the total number of cases to nearly 578-thousand-600.  There were eight additional deaths reported today raising the death toll to 66-hundred-and-33. CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM WI DHS.

Advocates are highlighting autism this month. April is Autism Acceptance Month. The Autism Society of Greater Wisconsin and the Autism Society of America are fundraising to improve the lives of those with physical or cognitive disabilities. Donations can be made on their website.
