The Eau Claire Area School District holds workshops once a month in part of it’s ‘Here for You’ series. Local Voting Results: Familiar Faces Stay

Everyone is keeping their spot-on Eau Claire’s city council and school board. Voters re-elected all of the incumbents yesterday. Five members of the city council won re-election, as did three members of the school board. The county clerk’s office says just under 19 percent of registered voters cast a ballot yesterday.

Underly Wins State Superintendent

Democrats will remain in control of Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction. Jill Underly won yesterday’s election for state superintendent. She beat Republican Deb Kerr for the officially non-partisan race. Underly attracted almost a million-dollars in outside political money during her race. She was the choice of Wisconsin’s teachers’ unions. Kerr’s campaign was plagued by missteps and a distinct disadvantage in fundraising. Republican’s Hang On to Majority

Wisconsin Republicans held on to their majority at the State Capitol by winning two seats in special elections yesterday. Republican John Jagler won the Senate seat that used to belong to Scott Fitzgerald in southeastern Wisconsin, and Elijah Behnke won the Assembly seat north of Green Bay that used to belong to John Nygren. Both men were expected to win. The victories mean the Republican majorities in the state legislature will not change.

Conservative Wins Bench in SE WI

Southeast Wisconsin is sending a conservative to the bench on the state’s appeals court. Judge Shelley Grogan easily beat Tony Evers-appointee Jeff Davis in yesterday’s election for the Second District Court of Appeals. Grogan clerks for the Wisconsin Supreme Court and is a municipal judge in Muskego. Davis was serving out the last of Brian Hagedorn’s seat on the appellate court. The second district seat covers all of southeast Wisconsin, with the exception of Milwaukee.

Men Facing Homicide Charges in Overdose Death

Two men are looking at homicide charges for their roles in an overdose death in Eau Claire last December. The D.A. yesterday filed reckless homicide charges against 19-year-old Noah Beckstead and 33-year-old Trenton Wik. Beckstead said he and the man who died bought what they thought was heroin from Wik. It turned out to be fentanyl.

Chippewa Trashes Single Company Idea

Folks in Chippewa Falls want to continue to pick their own garbage company . Voters yesterday overwhelmingly said ‘No’ to a plan to hire a single company to handle all of the city’s trash. Sixty six percent of voters, or about a thousand people, said they want to keep things the way they are.

CDC Sends WI Money for Vaccine Awareness

Most of Wisconsin’s 53 million-dollars for coronavirus awareness will be spent in the state’s underserved communities. The CDC yesterday awarded Wisconsin the money. The idea is to encourage more people to get the vaccine. More than a third of people in Wisconsin have already gotten at least one dose of the vaccine. But state health managers say many of those people are older and white. They’d like to see other groups in the state get vaccinated as well.
