ATV Accidents a Concerning Trend

There have already been double the amount of fatal ATV accidents in Wisconsin this year compared to the year before. The state department of natural resources says most of the 12-accidents have involved drivers using roads and highways instead of trails, and the others were safety related. They say most others weren’t wearing a helmet.

Biker Rescued in La Crosse

It took about a dozen firefighters to rescue a biker who fell off of Grandad Bluff in La Crosse. It happened about 8 p.m. Saturday evening. Firefighters say the man fell and was injured. Rope teams were called-in and had to go down the steep bluff to rescue him.

Three Rescued in WI Plane Crash

Three people were able to walk away from a small plane crash near Whitewater Saturday night. Authorities say the plane was headed from Sheboygan to Burlington when it went down in the trees of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. The plane was trapped about 75 feet off the ground. Rescuers had to use a series of ropes and pulleys to get the three people out. Everyone is okay. There’s no word on what caused the plane to crash.

To Mask or Not to Mask?

If you’ve gotten your coronavirus shots, the state of Wisconsin says you can ditch your mask. But it’s not that simple everywhere. The state’s Department of Health Services on Friday said it is changing the statewide mask rules to get in-line with the CDC’s latest advice. DHS’s decision doesn’t override any local mask mandates that may still be in place. WI Vaccinations at About 40%

Wisconsin’s fully vaccinated numbers continue to rise. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said over 39-percent of people in the state are now fully vaccinated. About 45-percent of people in the state have had at least one dose. DHS says while the number of people getting their second dose is going-up, the number of people getting the first dose is falling.  Wisconsin saw just about 150-thousand doses handed-out last week, marking a drop of almost 40-thousand doses from the week

Police Reform Part of Lawmakers List in WI

Lawmakers in Madison will get their first shot at police reform this week. The state Assembly is due to hear four of the plans from the Speaker’s Task Force on Tuesday. They include changes to use-of-force policies and a ban on chokeholds. It’s not clear how many of the plans will survive the statehouse, or how many will become law. Governor Tony Evers hasn’t said what he thinks of the proposals.

Dialing Up Support For Internet Efforts

One of the lawmakers in charge of Wisconsin’s next state budget says he wants to refocus the state’s internet efforts. Senator Howard Marklein on Friday asked Governor Evers for support in limiting broadband grants to communities that really need faster internet, and communities that are ready to begin work immediately. Marklein also asked the governor to share his plans for Wisconsin’s two-and-a-half-billion-dollars in federal stimulus money. The governor has talked about using some of that for internet projects. The Class of 2021 is done at UW-Eau Claire. The school graduated hundreds of seniors on Saturday. Families had to bring lawn chairs to be able to sit and watch the ceremony on the quad. This is the first in-person graduation at UW-Eau Claire since 2019.

Familiar Numbers Add Up To Jackpot

Consistency is paying off for one Michigan woman.  Vera Giglio of Grosse Pointe Shores won a 150-thousand dollar Powerball prize after playing the same numbers she’s used for years.  The 87-year-old woman said she’s stuck with the same numbers every week for several years in the hopes that one day they would win big.  She told Michigan Lottery officials she recognized the winning numbers for the March 27th drawing right away in the newspaper, calling the moment “very exciting.”  Giglio

WI Vaccines Near 40%

The COVID-19 vaccine now fully covers nearly 40-percent of Wisconsinites.  The Wisconsin Department of Health said yesterday that fresh data shows around two-point-two-million people living in Wisconsin are now fully vaccinated.  The report  says that around another two-point-six-million have gotten dose number one.   In Madison, appointments are still available to get the shot at the clinic at the Alliant Energy Center.   Find out how to sign up WITH A CLICK HERE.
