Tens of thousands of low-income kids in Wisconsin missed-out on extra food stamp money because the state’s Department of Public Instruction doesn’t know where they live. A new report says the state failed to get the kids, and their families, over 12-hundred-dollars in extra benefits that were supposed to make-up for the meals the kids were missing at school. Daily WI Coronavirus Cases Top 1,000

The Wisconsin Department of Health is confirming over a thousand positive COVID-19 cases today.  The one-thousand-and-46 new cases pushes the total to nearly 583-thousand.  There were 14 additional deaths reported today raising the death toll statewide from the coronavirus to more than 66-hundred. WI Senator Gets Trump Endorsement

Fatal Accident in Chippewa Co.

A medical incident could be behind a deadly crash in Chippewa County. It was on April 4th when the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department responded to a vehicle in the ditch that was on fire near the intersection of CTH SS and 200th Ave in the Township of Bloomer. Detour Planned for Farwell Street

South Farwell Street will be closed starting Monday, April 12, starting at 7:00 am, from Seaver Street toEmery Street for utility work. A signed detour will be in place. The cause of George Floyd’s death is being discussed today in the murder trial of former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin.  Prosecution witness, Dr. Martin Tobin, is taking the stand today.  Prosecution witness Dr. Martin Tobin testified that Floyd died from a low level of oxygen which caused damage to his brain and ultimately caused his heart to stop.  Yesterday, forensic scientists said they found Floyd’s blood stains and white pills containing fentanyl and methamphetamine at the crime scene.  Additionally,

Parking Restrictions Shift in EC

Event to Benefit The Highground Veterans Memorial Park

This will be a big day for The Highground Veterans Memorial Park at Neillsville, as there will be a capital campaign kickoff event late today at The Condensery in Osseo. The Highground’s leadership is working to raise $4 million, with a new museum and education center, along with upgrades at its Camp Victory facilities planned. There’s no charge for attending the event, which includes food, 5:3-7:30 p.m. Information is available on The Highground’s Web site, and walk-in spaces are available.

Human Trafficking Suspects Arrested

The main suspect in a wide-ranging sex case in Eau Claire is in custody. Eau Claire County deputies yesterday arrested Mark Scoville. He’s wanted on 32 counts of sexual assault and drug charges. A number of women have told police Scoville drugged them, then raped them. Scoville was indicted last month, but was on the run. Eau Claire’s city-county health director says they have hundreds of doses of the coronavirus vaccine to give, starting today. Health director Lieske Giese says the mass vaccine clinic at UW-Eau Claire’s Zorn Arena opens today. It is open tomorrow and Saturday as well.
