WI Supreme Court Tells State To Leave Voter Rolls Alone

 Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul says today’s court decision regarding deactivating thousands of voter registrations is a win for voters.  The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled five-to-two that it’s not the job of the state Elections Commission to deactivate voter registrations if voters move, but rather the responsibility of municipal election officials.  Attorney General Kaul says the argument that the state Election Commission had a duty to deactivate thousands of registered voters was based on a “plainly incorrect reading of the law.”

Plates Violation Leads To Drug Arrest

A traffic stop for not having a front license plate lands three people from Necedah in jail.  The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office says the three were stopped on Highway 21 in Cutler Township Wednesday afternoon and a K-9 Officer named Timo alerted to possible drugs in the vehicle.  A search found not only drugs but 45-thousand-dollars in cash.  Jeffrey Hatfield, Lisa Jamison and Richard Jones all face charges that include possession of cocaine, fentanyl and morphine with the intent to

Pump Sees An Inch Up

The average price for regular gas inched up a penny a gallon over the last week.  Triple-A says the price at the pump in Wisconsin is 2.73-cents a gallon today.  That’s 13 cents lower than the national average of two-86.  Regular gas is 2.68-a-gallon in Appleton, two-64 in Fond du Lac, two-70 in Madison, two-71 in Green Bay and 2.72 in Eau Claire and Milwaukee.

Eau Claire County is home to three different ticks: deer ticks, wood ticks, and the lone star ticks. The Eau Claire City-County Health Department sent deer ticks collected in 2019 to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to evaluate the presence of tickborne diseases present in our community. WI Ranks High for Low Unemployment

Wisconsin continues to have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.   Wisconsin Workforce Development reports first-time claims are up in the latest week.  Ongoing claims, which more accurately reflect the unemployment rate, went down.  The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports Wisconsin is ranked 9th for its unemployment rate at three-point-eight-percent.

EC Ranked High for Home Buyers

A new list of the best cities for first time home buyers puts Eau Claire near the top of the list. It’s ranked the fifth best city in the United States for first-time home buyers. The list put out by Realtor dot com ranks cities by home prices, availability of homes, and jobs.  Bloomington, Illinois is at the top of the list, followed by Iowa City, Iowa; Kalamazoo, Michigan; Great Falls, Montana; and Eau Claire.

Local Deputy Awarded

A Polk County sheriff’s deputy is getting a national award for creating a video that solved a seven-year-cold case.  Deputy Andrew Vitalis led a video project that helped authorities get a tip in a double hit and run that killed two people in 2014.  Vitalis will receive the Deputy Sheriff of the Year Award of Merit from the National Sheriff’s Association.
