The defense will start presenting its case today in the murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.  Chauvin is accused of murdering George Floyd last year after holding his knee on the handcuffed Black man’s neck for more than nine minutes, setting off protests across the country and around the world.  Yesterday, the jury heard emotional testimony from Floyd’s brother, while a police use-of-force expert said no reasonable officer would have done what Chauvin did.

A man charged with sexual assault and stalking last month is facing more charges. A criminal complaint filed in Eau Claire County court Monday shows Larry Young is facing more charges after another woman accused him of luring and assaulting her in his car before she threw herself from the vehicle. Young is due back in court later this month.

It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. The Eau Claire Communications Center is planning to sound its warning sirens Thursday at 1 p.m. and the National Weather Service is conducting mock tornado drills shortly after. It’ll be partly sunny with a high of 54 degrees Thursday, so the sirens and drills shouldn’t indicate any real threat of severe weather.

Pet owners will want to take a closer look at what their cat is eating.  Dry food from the popular Meow Mix brand is being recalled for possible salmonella.  Not only can cats get sick, but anyone who touches the food.  Cats can also infect owners even if they’re not showing symptoms.  The 30-pound bags expire in September 2022.  They were sold at Walmarts in Wisconsin, Wyoming, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska and Utah.  To find out if the Meow

 Add Milwaukee to the list of cities that saw protests over the deadly officer-involved shooting in Minnesota. A group of protesters, including Milwaukee Democratic state Rep. David Bowen, closed down a portion of I-43 yesterday evening. The group says they marched along the interstate to show their anger that a Minnesota police officer shot and killed Duante Wright during a traffic stop over the weekend. Milwaukee County’s sheriff says one protester was arrested, but no one is saying why.  About

We know who, but we still don’t know the why of a weekend shooting in Rusk County that left a man dead. The sheriff’s office yesterday identified the person of interest in the case as 59-year-old Scott O’Brien. He’s the father of 36-year-old Jesse O’Brien, who died in a shooting in Sheldon on Friday. Investigators are not commenting on a motive, as they say the investigation is still on-going. Prosecutors have not filed charges in the case.
