Curling USA Slides to Minnesota

Curling USA is leaving Stevens Point and Wisconsin.  The organization’s statement this week says the new headquarters will be in Eagan, Minnesota.  The site is next to USA Curling’s sports medicine partners, Twin Cities Orthopedics.  Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza says the city was not notified of the group’s plans.  Mayor Wiza says Stevens Point remains committed to the sport.

Brush Up on Your S’mores Skills!

The state’s COVID-19 restrictions for state parks are being loosened.  A Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources statement says as of yesterday new rules apply for those who use state parks.  The rules changes include the opening up of access to playground equipment and observation towers and capacity increases for open air shelters, amphitheaters and organized group events.  DNR officials remind everyone that family and group camping are also now available in Wisconsin’s state parks.

Vice President Harris to Visit WI

Vice President Kamala Harris plans to visit Milwaukee.  The Vice President will be in Milwaukee this Tuesday.  The Vice President is expected to speak on the accomplishments of the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration.  So far, no other details about her visit have been released.

WI Daily Coronavirus Cases Continue Climb

 The number of positive COVID-19 cases statewide continues to climb.  The State Department of Health reported 789 new coronavirus cases over the last day, which pushes the total number of cases over 598-thousand.  There were eight additional deaths reported, which raises the death toll to more than 68-hundred-and-20.  The positivity rate as of today is three-point-two-percent. WI Fire Risk High

There is a warning in many parts of the state regarding an increase wildfire risk.  Sue Danielson has more: The Department of Natural Resources says the current risk is high in all but seven of Wisconsin’s 72 counties and the remaining areas are classified as a moderate risk.  All of southern Wisconsin is included in the high-risk category.  The DNR says the warmest weekend of the year is upcoming and they expect critical fire conditions so they are asking Wisconsinites to remain vigilant.

Heads Up, Penny Bump at the Pump

The average price for regular gas is up a penny-a-gallon statewide compared top a week ago.  Triple-A says the price at the pump in Wisconsin is 2.76-cents a gallon today.  That’s 13 cents below the national average of 2.89.  Only Minnesota, at two-74-a-gallon, has lower gas prices among neighboring states.

No Expiration on Rx Collection

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is still collecting unused and expired medications. The health department says it’s collected about 300-pounds of medication in the county so far. They say disposal boxes are open year-round and can be found on the city’s website.
