Eau Claire County will be the site of an experiment in rural internet service.  Julia Bertino reports.

 Wisconsin health officials say there are 485 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the last 24 hours.  The total number of cases is now nearly 605-thousand.  There were 18 new deaths confirmed today bringing the death toll statewide to 69-hundred-and-53. CLICK HERE FOR MORE FROM WI DHS.

Department of Natural Resources officials are warning residents to be vigilant as drought-like conditions persist in much of the state.  Officials today say a half a dozen new wild fires broke out yesterday in Northern and Central parts of the state and dry conditions are reported in Western Wisconsin as well.  Officials ask people to avoid burning and say permits have been suspended in many counties.

The Milwaukee Brewers will welcome back a capacity crowd at American Family Field next month.  The team announced today that 100-percent fan capacity will resume on Friday, June 25th when the Brewers play the Colorado Rockies.  Single-game tickets are currently available for games through May 27th.

Students moving out of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire this week can drop off their unwanted, lightly used furniture today and tomorrow for a small fee. The Eau Claire City-County Health Department says students can bring items to the U-W-E-C parking lot near Water Street today and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s five-dollars to drop off a small item, and 10-dollars for each large item. They say the furniture will be donated to local groups.

 Lifeguards are wanted in Chippewa Falls this summer. The city parks, recreation, and forestry department says it needs to hire at least 10-lifeguards at the Bernard F. Wili Outdoor Pool before the summer. They need staff to teach swim lessons, too.

The Chippewa Falls Area Senior Center is opening soon. It’s been closed more than a year after the pandemic hit, but it’s set to open again for activities, services, and programs in June. Memberships are 35-dollars for the year. The senior center will officially open June 2nd.

Wisconsin Cheese is giving away 180-prizes in honor of it’s 180th cheesemaking anniversary. They say Wisconsin has been making cheese longer than it’s been an official state. Winners of the 180-prizes will be announced during a livestream of the event. Donations to the Great American Milk Drive are encouraged at registration, but the event is free.

New recipes created from locally produced ingredients will be showcased as part of Farm Progress Days July 20-22 in Eau Claire County. This is thanks to a partnership between event host Huntsinger Farm, four other local producers, and the Chippewa Valley Technical College Culinary Management program. On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at 2:09 p.m., the Barron County 911 center received a call that a 12 year old child was in a tree threatening to jump. Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department arrived on scene and located the 12 year old about 30 feet up in a tree. After 45 minutes of negotiations, deputies acted on a rescue plan with the help of all the agencies involved and got the child down without any injury. The
