The department is looking for a new co-response coordinator to help people suffering addiction, mental health disorders, crisis, and are houseless. The department is hopeful to fill the position by the summer.

Highway crews could be out on the roads fixing buckles and potholes this week. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says pavement can buckle when the weather changes from hot to cooler temperatures. They want people to watch out for the buckles, and watch out for crews repairing them.

No Injuries Reported in Late Night Fire

Everyone made it out of a fire at an apartment building in Eau Claire last night. Firefighters say flames damaged the building at the corner of Chauncey Street and Woodland Avenue-it was a 4 unit building and the fire started a bit before 11 last night. Firefighters are not saying what caused the fire, as it remains under investigation.

Trial Set in Animal Abuse Case

The woman accused of nearly starving a dog to death in Dunn County is ready for trial. The case against Ann Iehl is set to begin tomorrow. Police say she abandoned a dog, now named Gabriel, back in November of 2019. The dog was so thin and sick it could barely walk. Ihel is facing felony charges for mistreatment of animals. La Crosse Priest Asked to Step Down

Catholic Church leaders in La Crosse have reportedly asked a priest who ignored their coronavirus rules to step down. Reverend James Altman says he was asked to resign by the diocese’s bishop. Altman came under fire last year when he ignored coronavirus safety rules, and criticized Democrats for their stance on the virus and restrictions on people who gathered together.

Lawmakers Up to Bat on Sports Bill

Wisconsin lawmakers are going to take-up the plans to keep womens’ and girls’ sports in the state for women and girls only. Lawmakers have a hearing tomorrow on the proposal to ban trans athletes from competing with biological women and girls. State Rep. Barb Dittrich says it’s an issue of fairness, and of protecting womens’ sports for women. Trans advocates say the proposal is an attack on trans people. Voter Fraud Cases Uncovered, Meetings Continue

Get ready to hear more about voter fraud in Wisconsin. The state’s Elections Commission yesterday said it will host a meeting next week to talk about the 41 fraud cases it uncovered last year. Elections Commission boss Meagan Wolfe says the cases have all been handed over to local prosecutors. She says it’s important for voters to know that election managers in the state are serious about stopping fraud.

Cudahy Facing School Closures

Despite a nearly 12-million-dollar tax increase for schools last year, Cudahy schools say they don’t have the money to keep all of their buildings open. Superintendent Tina Owen-Moore said last week that the district is going to have to close one elementary school to make-up for the gap in the district’s budget. Managers at the Northeast Wisconsin Zoo in Suamico yesterday had to calm some nerves after visitors spotted some snakes near the soda vending machines. The Zoo’s Angela Kawski says the snakes were wild snakes, not snakes that escaped from the zoo. She says it’s not uncommon to find wild snakes inside the zoo, and said the snakes in question were most likely harmless.
