Flags across Wisconsin will be lowered to half-staff next Friday to honor the life of a decorated Major General.  James Delaney passed away in the fall and his funeral is scheduled for Friday, June 4th in the Village of Kendall.  Governor Evers today ordered all U.S. and Wisconsin flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on June 4th.

WI Average for COVID-19 Cases Hits Low

The seven-day average for new COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin fell below 300 for the first time in nearly a year.  Health Department data released today reveals 282 new coronavirus cases identified since yesterday.  The Department of Health Services says incidence of the virus remains high in 57 counties, moderate in 14 and low in one county.  There have been seven-thousand-and-40 Wisconsinites killed by COVID-19. Traffic Stop Turns to Drug Bust in Sawyer Co.

On May 24, 2021 at 3:38am, Sawyer County Deputies executed a traffic stop on a silver 2012 Chevrolet Cruze on USH 63 near Beal Avenue in the City of Hayward. The vehicle was stopped for multiple traffic violations. During the course of the stop, Sawyer County K-9 Trace alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. WI Program Aims to Feed Children

The state is distributing federal funds to families with children six-years-old and younger who are not enrolled in school. Monarch butterflies are back from Mexico. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says they typically return to the U.S. and the Midwest by May to find food. The Wisconsin Monarch Collaborative is encouraging people to plant milkweed and nectar plants to help with declining butterfly populations.

Life in Prison for WI Man

A Brown County man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his wife. A judge sentenced 75-year-old James Prokopovitz to a life sentence yesterday. A jury found Prokopovitz guilty of killing his wife, Victoria, back in 2013. Her body has never been found. Prokopovitz told police she simply ran off. Prokopovitz didn’t say anything at his sentencing.

The newest officer for Eau Claire Police will help shift the city’s focus on mental health. The department this week announced it’s looking to hire a Co-Response Coordinator. Piggy Bank Plumps, Stimulus Discussions Expand

City leaders in Eau Claire say they have a once in a lifetime opportunity with the city’s stimulus money. The city council this week started talking about how to spend Eau Claire’s 13-and-a-half-million-dollars in American Rescue Plan money. Council President Terry Weld says they want to maximize the money’s impact. Eau Claire’s finance director says the city usually spends about 13-million-dollars a year on roads, and he says a one time bump like that could make a huge difference.
