Murder Suspects in Custody

Two murder suspects are in custody in La Crosse County.  The Sheriff’s Office says Nya Thao and Khamthanet  Rattanasack were arrested in two different locations.  Thao was taken into custody in Wausau and Rattanasack was arrested in Amherst by Portage County Police.  The two men are accused killing three victims on Friday and dumping their bodies at the Milestone Quarry in the Town of Hamilton.

UW Campuses Hold Steady Amid Covid Concerns

Despite warnings the Delta variant of COVID-19 is spreading rapidly there is a move to restrict the University of Wisconsin from monitoring the COVID virus on its campuses.  Republican State Senator Steve Nass plans to block UW from instituting protocols involving vaccines, masking and COVID testing.  He says his action is in response to the COVID mandates such as requiring unvaccinated students to submit to weekly testing.  Nass says some chancellors in the UW system are trying to take advantage of the

Cleanup Continues After Storms

The chainsaws were out from Eau Claire to Kenosha after a line of strong and severe storms cut across the state. There are no reports of any serious injuries, but there are plenty of reports of damage. The National Weather Service issued several tornado warnings as part of the storm system. There are flooded streets and downed power lines in many communities. Utilities in the state say tens of thousands of people lost power during the worst of the storms.

WI Aligns With CDC, Johnson Speaks Out Against Masks in Schools

There’s a good chance kids in Wisconsin schools will be wearing masks when they return to the classroom this fall. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said it fully supports the new CDC recommendations that all kids and teachers wear masks at school, even if they’ve been vaccinated. Silver Alert Ends Well

The search for a missing elderly woman in Sheboygan has come to a happy ending. Authorities in Sheboygan say Agnes Leubner has been found safe. The Highway Patrol issued a Silver Alert for her yesterday when she didn’t show-up for lunch with her friends. The search included casinos in Green Bay and Menominee. Troopers canceled the alert late last night.

Silhouettes Work to Raise Awareness

This week, Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin and Bolton Refuge House joined together for an event displaying silhouettes in downtown Eau Claire to help raise awareness of crime victims’ rights in Wisconsin. The silhouettes highlight various rights included under Wisconsin’s recently adopted crime victims’ rights constitutional amendment known as Marsy’s Law. Bolton Refuge House has used silhouettes in the past to memorialize victims of domestic-related homicides. Nine silhouettes were placed on display in downtown Eau Claire on Barstow Street.
