One of Wisconsin’s most popular spots for strawberry picking is closing its doors. Andy Merry, who owns the Merry Farm in Antigo, says he’s retiring. He’s opened his farm to visitors for 40 years. Merry is one of Wisconsin’s most popular strawberry growers, and he says he grows about 80- to 90-thousand pounds each year.

Flags Lowered…

 Governor Tony Evers orders flags across the state to fly at half-mast on Saturday to honor a Wisconsin airman.  Airman Second-Class Edward Miller will be buried on Saturday at Maple Hill Cemetery in Evansville.  He was killed while serving in the Korean War in November of 1952.  Miller was on a transport plane when it crashed into a glacier during a blizzard near Anchorage Alaska.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer involved critical incident in the Mikana, Wis. that occurred on the evening of Wednesday, July 14, 2021. The Barron County Sheriff’s Office was called for a wellness check for an adult, white male subject after he had made a threat to a person who lived nearby. Sheriff Requests Neglect Charges For Parents

The sheriff in Taylor County is asking prosecutors to file charges against the parents of a toddler who wandered off and was hit by a train. Sheriff Larry Woebbeking asked for neglect charges yesterday against Kyle and Natasha Bratland. Their two-year-old son wandered out of the house two weeks ago and walked into the path of a freight train. The sheriff says the little boy and his siblings were often spotted playing alone near the train tracks.

Teaching Aide Suspended

A teaching aide in Bloomer is out of the classroom after being arrested for sexually assaulting two students. Prosecutors have yet to file formal charges against 22-year-old Noah Lane. He was arrested on Sunday. He was an aide in the classroom at Bloomer Middle School, and police say he exposed himself and/or showed the students sexually explicit images. City Workers Facing Theft Charges

One city of Eau Claire worker has lost his job and another could lose his job over Menards rebate cards. Prosecutors say Steven Roscoe and Jason Palmer each spent a few hundred dollars in rebate cards that should have gone to the city. Roscoe left his job as a parks supervisor last month, and Palmer is on unpaid leave until the criminal case against him is over. Prosecutors are moving ahead with misdemeanor theft charges. Paycheck Protection Scam Leads to Prison

A Milwaukee man is heading to prison for three years for trying to scam the federal government out of more than a half-million dollars. A judge yesterday sentenced 42-year-old Stephen Smith to three years behind bars. Smith pleaded guilty back in April to filing false Paycheck Protection claims to try and get 600-thousand-dollars from the federal government. Prosecutors say he inflated the payroll for his companies.

Some folks in southeast Wisconsin got a lot of rain in a short amount of time. Forecasters say flooding is the worry after last night’s round of storms. Local Coronavirus Cases Inching Up

Eau Claire County is on the list of counties with ‘high’ coronavirus activity. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said 15 counties across the state have seen an uptick in coronavirus cases. Last week, just two counties, Dunn and Rusk, were on the ‘high’ list. DHS says coronavirus cases are inching back up, but are nowhere near where they were during Wisconsin’s peak back in November. DHS continues to ask people to get vaccinated.
