Molson Coors Crushes Budget Brands

 Molson Coors this week said it is eliminating 11 budget beer lines as part of a ‘refocusing.’ High Life Light, as well as Keystone Ice, Mickey’s Ice, Milwaukee’s Best Premium, Steel Reserve Triple Export, and Olde English HG 800 among others, are being retired. Molson Coors says they’ve been planning to drop the ‘underperforming’ beers for a while. The brewery says it wants to shift its focus to the growing hard seltzer market instead.

“Kwik” Thinking Prevented a Scam

Chippewa Falls Police say a quick-thinking Kwik Trip cashier saved a local woman from a scam. Police say store leader Jenn Engaldo knew something was wrong when an older woman tried to buy two-thousand-dollars in Apple gift cards from the store on Woodward Avenue. Eventually, Engaldo and the police helped the woman realize she was falling for a fake arrest-warrant scam. Officers say Engaldo’s quick thinking helped save the woman’s bank account. WI Rx for Affordable Drugs

Wisconsin’s governor wants the state to get into the prescription drug business. Governor Tony Evers yesterday proposed a ‘Less for Rx’ prescription drug plan. The idea is to have the state create a drug affordability review board and a drug importation program that the governor says can lower drug costs. Stimulus Static Continues at Capitol

Some Republican lawmakers want to know why Governor Evers has only spent a fraction of the state’s three-billion-dollars in stimulus money. STIMA new report from the Department of Education shows Wisconsin has spent just 17-percent of its education stimulus dollars. Suburban Milwaukee Republican Dale Kooyenga says that means 83-percent of the money is still sitting in the bank. Republican Senator Duey Stroebel says it’s par-for-the-course for the governor, who Stroebel says has been ‘disorganized and inefficient’ in spending all of Wisconsin’s stimulus haul.

Add Olympic silver medalist to Kenny Bednarek’s resume. The Rice Lake native captured the silver in the men’s 200 meter sprint. He finished just a fraction of a second behind the Canadian runner in the race. Bednarek had run the fastest qualifying time in the 200, only to lose by less than a step in the medal race. A Shot At A Free Cream Puff

Governor Tony Evers yesterday said anyone who gets their coronavirus shot at the Wisconsin State Fair will get a free cream puff. There will be a vaccine clinic at the fair each day between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.. Attempt To Tie Border Wall Funding To Infrastructure Bill Denied

An attempt to tie border wall funding to the infrastructure bill under consideration in the Senate is being rejected.   Wisconsin Republican Ron Johnson tried to get the proposal adopted by the Senate, but his colleagues disagreed.  It would’ve prohibited border wall contracts from being canceled, but didn’t get the 60 votes it needed.  Johnson insisted more of the border wall needs to be completed.  The only Democrat to vote for it was Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
