Lawmakers Tackle Gender Identity in Classrooms

Republican lawmakers in Madison want to give parents the option to opt-out of classes on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Assembly’s Committee on Education yesterday listened to parents and advocates who say moms and dads should talk to their kids about sex and gender.

Democrats and LGBTQ-plus advocates say allowing parents to opt kids out could harm gay and lesbian students. State Rep. Bob Whitke says the idea is to give parents a choice about what their kids are learning.
