Chippewa Valley Airport to Offer PreCheck Program

Residents of the Chippewa Valley area will be able to enroll in the Transportation Security Administration’s TSA PreCheck® application program inside Chippewa Valley Regional Airport (EAU) from Monday, Aug. 9 through Friday, Aug. 13. The temporary enrollment center will be held in north end of the airport terminal. In response to the coronavirus, cleaning protocols have been increased on high-touch surfaces including door handles, keyboards, counters and chairs. New Eviction Moratorium Announced By CDC

 The CDC is putting out a new eviction moratorium as the Delta variant of coronavirus spreads across the country.  The order applies to counties experiencing high levels of community transmission and expires October 3rd.  The health agency argued the moratorium will allow more time “for rent relief to reach renters and to further increase vaccination rates.”

Unemployment Dips a Bit

The nation’s unemployment lines are a little shorter.  Four-hundred-thousand Americans filed first-time claims for jobless benefits last week.  That’s 24-thousand fewer than the previous week’s revised total.  Most experts had forecast about 370-thousand first-time claims.

Milwaukee Police Facing Shortages

Milwaukee Police may be looking at a staffing crisis. The city’s police officers’ union yesterday said they are nearly 200 officers short right now, and another 100 or so could retire soon. Milwaukee Police Association President Dale Bormann says a lot of officers simply don’t want to deal with the abuse they get, and said many don’t feel supported. Woman Arrested in Murder for Hire Plot

We are waiting for more details about a murder-for-hire plot in Oshkosh. Police say they arrested a 39-year-old woman on Tuesday for trying to hire a hitman. Police will not say who the woman is, who she was trying to have killed, or how they became aware of the case. Investigators are asking anyone who may know anything about the crime to contact them.

Man Taken For Treatment After Mental Health Concerns

On Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at about 3:55pm, Lake Hallie Officers and the Chippewa Fire District were dispatched to Highway 124 North at Highway 29 East in the Village of Lake Hallie WI for a report of an apparent attempted suicide. Inactive Voters Checked Off

Hundreds of thousands of people who have not voted in years in Wisconsin are being moved on the inactive voter list. The Wisconsin Elections Commission yesterday announced it has deactivated 205-thousand voters. Most did not respond to a postcard asking if they still wanted to vote, while others simply moved. While the voters are now on the inactive list, they will remain on Wisconsin’s voting rolls. State Rep. CVTC Stimulus to Focus on Students

Chippewa Valley Technical College’s latest share of the state’s stimulus money is just over a million-and-a-half dollars. The school yesterday said it is getting one-point-seven-million to expand dual-enrollment classes for students across the Chippewa Valley. CVTC President Sunem Beaton-Garcia says the focus will be on students in rural and underserved parts of the state.
