WI Sees Plump at the Pump

The average price for regular gas in Wisconsin is up three-cents-a-gallon compared to a week ago.  Heading into the holiday weekend, Triple-A says the price at the pump in the Badger State is three-oh-one a gallon today.  The national average is 3.18.  Drivers are paying 2.91-a-gallon in Appleton, two-83 in Fond du Lac, two-95 in Green Bay, about 3.02 in Eau Claire, and La Crosse and 3.01 Milwaukee and Madison.

Arrest Made in Milwaukee Shootings

Just one person is in custody in connection to the five shootings in Milwaukee yesterday. Police say five people were wounded in separate shootings. They started at 1:30 a.m., and ran through last night. All of the victims are expected to survive. Police say they are looking for motives and other suspects in each case.

August Jobs Fall Short of Estimates

A disappointing August jobs report is out.  The Labor Department reports the economy added only 235-thousand jobs last month.  That’s far short of analysts’ estimate of up to 750-thousand and less than one-fourth of the 943-thousand new jobs in July.  The unemployment rate fell to five-point-two percent, down from five-point-four percent in July.

Community Service Ordered for County Theft

A woman who stole thousands of dollars from Eau Claire County is looking at community service and a chance to wipe her record clean. A judge yesterday sentenced Zer Smith to 20 days of community service for spending over 10 thousand-dollars in county money on herself. Investigators say Smith used her county credit card to buy groceries, clothes, and other personal items. In addition to the community service, Smith has to repay the county the 10 thousand-dollars. Refugees Continue to Arrive at Fort McCoy

More Afghan refugees are coming to Wisconsin than first thought. The Pentagon yesterday said troops are expanding the facilities at Fort McCoy to accommodate 13 thousand refugees. Governor Tony Evers originally said Wisconsin would get anywhere between ‘a few hundred’ and maybe ‘two thousand’ refugees. No one is saying how many Afghans have already arrived at the fort, or when the next round of refugees will arrive. WI COVID-19 Cases Continue Upward Trend

Wisconsin’s coronavirus count is as high as it was back in January. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported over one thousand new cases. That’s about where the state was at the beginning of the year.
