Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul says on Indigenous People’s Day we honor Native Americans, their ancestors and their major contributions to the United States and its culture.  Kaul says it’s important to acknowledge the historical trauma that indigenous communities have endured and commend their resilience.  Kaul says the state of Wisconsin is now and must continue to be committed to working collaboratively with tribal nations as sovereign partners. UW-Chancellor Heads to Illinois

The University of Wisconsin-Madison chancellor is leaving the university.  Rebecca Blank is leaving at the end of the year to become the first female president of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.  Blank has been chancellor in Madison for over eight years.  She said today it’s been a privilege and an honor to serve the people of Wisconsin and the university.

Deer Crossing…The Line?

Appleton police are offering some advice when it comes wildlife in the city.  Cops say a person and their dog suffered minor injuries when they were attacked by an aggressive deer near Linwood Park last week.  While Appleton Police and the DNR work on a solution, officials strongly suggest people keep their dogs on a leash, watch wildlife from a distance, don’t feed or touch wildlife in the parks and if you see an aggressive animal call police.

UW-Madison Expands Online Degree Options

UW-Madison is expanding its online-only offerings. The university on Friday announced the creation of a new Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree. It is Madison’s sixth online-only degree. Chancellor Rebecca Blank says the hope is to get students who started a degree, but then went on with their lives to finish taking classes and finally earn their degree.

Milwaukee Sees Weekend Violence

 Milwaukee’s weekend body count is three, but that may go-up. Milwaukee Police say three people died in separate shootings over the weekend. A fourth shooting victim is not expected to survive after being shot and crashing his car on North Sherman Saturday night. In all, Milwaukee Police say nine people were shot either Saturday or Sunday. That includes a shooting that killed a young woman and wounded two others on Saturday afternoon.

State Investigates Deadly Chippewa Co. Incident

State investigators are looking into a deadly officer-involved shooting in Chippewa County on Friday. It happened after a traffic stop near the Township of Goetz. The sheriff says a deputy stopped a person, there was then a fight. The sheriff says the suspect sprayed the officer with something, so the officer shot the suspect. MN Speaks Out After Mass Shooting

State officials are speaking out following the mass shooting at a St. Paul bar.  On Sunday, Governor Tim Walz called the incident at Seventh Street Truck Park that left one woman dead and 14 people injured, “horrific.”  Governor Walz then pledged to work with St. Paul police to investigate the shooting.  St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter also shared his thoughts on the incident, noting that he is “devastated” by Saturday’s shooting.  State Senator Paul Gazelka also posted a video to

Drunk Driver Hits Squad Car in Manitowoc Co.

The sheriff in Manitowoc County says a deputy is recovering after a drunk man in a Corvette smashed into his squad car early yesterday morning. It happened along I-43 near Highway 310 about 2:30 yesterday morning. The sheriff says the deputy was parked in the median, but the Corvette left the interstate and smashed into the back of his SUV. The deputy was taken to a Green Bay Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Rescue crews had to cut the Corvette

Work Begins on Wonderland

It’s time to get to work on the Christmas Village in Irvine Park. The city’s parks department is looking for volunteers to help string the 60 thousand lights that go into the Christmas Village. Opening night is a little more than one month away. The Parks Department’s Missy Prieve says anyone can volunteer, from kids up to grandparents. WI Dials Up Phone Number Changes

You’re soon going to have to dial more numbers to connect a call in Wisconsin. Ten-digit dialing begins in two weeks in the state. The change won’t mean too much for people who primarily use cell phones, but anyone using a landline will need to start to add the area code to all calls.
