It will soon be up to a court to decide on Wisconsin’s next political map. The State Assembly yesterday approved the maps drawn by Republican lawmakers. Democrats at the Capitol joined them in rejecting the maps drawn by Governor Evers’ People’s Map Commission.  The governor has promised to veto the Republican-drawn maps, because he says they are gerrymandering. When that happens, it will either be up to a federal court or Wisconsin Supreme Court to draw the state’s new political boundaries.

Add Eau Claire’s fire department to the list of people warning about a t-shirt scam. Firefighters say they are not selling t-shirts to raise money and say texts that offer the shirts are a scam. The texts come through with an official looking number, and offer a link to a limited-edition shirt for sale. Deputy Fire Chief Allyn Bertrang says he got one of the scam texts yesterday. Kids will be back in class today at La Crosse Central High School following a threat that canceled classes yesterday. The school district says a student emailed about the threat yesterday, and out of an abundance of caution, classes were canceled. Police say they’ve “resolved’ the threat, though they aren’t saying just what that means. La Crosse Police say they are investigating, but don’t have any word about a suspect in the case.

Eau Claire school leaders are getting ready to ask for more money. The city’s school board is looking to put a referendum question on the ballot next November. To prepare, the district is planning a community survey and an outreach campaign. No one is saying just how much Eau Claire Schools will ask for, or which projects will be on the referendum list. That information will come later.

Wisconsin is ending the week with more people in the hospital with the coronavirus. The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said just over one thousand people are in the hospital with the virus. Of them, just under 300 are in the ICU. Last week there were about 900 people in the hospital with the virus. The Hospital Association does not track how many people are hospitalized with the virus, as opposed to how many people are hospitalized because of it.

The ring-ring-ring of the bells is back in southeast Wisconsin. The Salvation Army is launching its Red Kettle campaign today. The kettles and their bell ringers are one of the signs of the Christmas season. Salvation Army Major Steve Woodard says bell ringers will be out each day until Christmas Eve. The donations during the Christmas season help pay for Salvation Army programs throughout the entire year.

It’s not the first round of snow that folks in Eau Claire need to worry about. Forecasters say the Chippewa Valley will see a dusting of snow today but could see as much as four inches of snow during tomorrow night’s second round. Eau Claire may be getting lucky. The National Weather Service has posted a winter weather advisory for parts of Minnesota and Iowa until noon today.

It is day eight of the Kyle Rittenhouse trial in Kenosha.  The day began with Judge Bruce Schroeder informing the court that the jury could begin deliberations as early as tomorrow.  The defense still has to finish presenting its case which will be followed by closing arguments and the judge’s instructions to the jury before deliberations.

A K-9 Officer is getting some special treats today after being credited with finding two missing boys in Lake Mills.  K-9 Truman and his handler Officer Adams set out to find the four-year-old and seven-year-old boys who were reported missing around 3 p.m. yesterday.  The temperatures were dropping and the kids didn’t have clothes on that would protect them against the elements.  The K-9 team set out to track the pair and found them about a half mile away near
