New Pharmaceutical Plant Planned in WI

 Plans are revealed for a new multi-million dollar pharmaceutical complex in Verona.  Arrowhead Pharmaceutical says the complex will be built in the Verona Technological Park, cost between 200 and 250-million dollars, and bring in hundreds of new jobs.  Construction will start in a few months and the complex will open in about a year.

Woman Charged With Homicide In Crash That Killed Wisconsin Public Media Director

A woman who recently ran for city council in Fitchburg is charged in connection with a deadly crash that killed Wisconsin Public Media director Gene Purcell.  Shawnicia Youmas was charged Tuesday with homicide by negligent driving.  Police say Youmas told them Purcell cut in front of her with his motorcycle back in July when she hit and killed him in south Madison.  But evidence shows she was driving nearly 35 miles per hour over the speed limit at the time of the crash.  Youmas

UW Leaders Aim for May

University of Wisconsin-Madison leaders say they plan to name the school’s new chancellor in May.  The committee that’s heading up the search announced Tuesday the application deadline will be March and semifinalist interviews will begin in April.  Final campus visits will be the first week of May and a recommendation will be made to the board of regents in mid-May.

“Lettuce” Tell You About a Recall

Hundreds of salad products that were sold in over a dozen states including Wisconsin are being recalled.  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says over 200 Fresh Express, Bowl and Basket, and Marketside items are being recalled because of listeria concerns.  The FDA says customers who have those items should throw them away and contact Fresh Express for a refund.  A full list of affected items is available online WITH A CLICK HERE.

Tayor Co. Mother Faces Charges

A Taylor County mom is out of jail as prosecutors move ahead with charges for her child’s death. A judge yesterday gave Natasha Bratland a signature bond in the case. Prosecutors say Bratland allowed her two-year-old to play on the train tracks near their home in Lublin. Neighbors say the toddler was wandering the streets in just a diaper before she walked onto the tracks and was hit by a train earlier this year. Prosecutors are charging her with negligence.

Investigation Continues After Deadly Work Accident

Xcel Energy says a worker hurt in an accident at the Wissota Dam has died. The company yesterday said 48-year-old Jon Grunseth of Gilman died Sunday. He was seriously hurt back on December 8th. Xcel says he was unloading equipment at the dam at the time. Grunseth was rushed to the hospital, and flown to the Twin Cities for treatment. Inspectors are still investigating the accident.

EC Test Scores Not Ready for Display

The latest snapshot from Eau Claire schools is not a good one. The city’s school district said this week that reading scores on the latest state tests are down dramatically from four years ago. In 2016, about half of elementary and middle school kids were reading at grade level. Last year, that number fell to just 38 percent. Omicron Variant Cases Climb

Last week Dane County had three omicron cases, yesterday that number stood at 150. Public Health Madison & Dane County yesterday announced an explosion in confirmed cases.
