The Republican members of the State Assembly panel investigating last year’s vote now want to know who has access to the state’s voter rolls. State Rep. Janel Brandtjen sent a letter to the Wisconsin Elections Commission this week asking for the ‘who, what, where and when’ regarding Wisconsin’s election databases and voting rolls. WI DHS Confirms Covid-19 Deaths

There aren’t any details about the young child who is being listed as Wisconsin’s first coronavirus death of someone under 10-years-old. The state’s Department of Health Services listed the child deaths last week, but isn’t saying if they had any underlying health conditions or other issues. It is extremely rare for young children to die from the coronavirus. DHS says of the state’s nearly 10 thousand coronavirus deaths, just seven of them are among people under the age of 19. DHS

Foxconn Sees Millions in State Aid

Foxconn is getting paid by the state of Wisconsin. The Evers Administration yesterday said the company qualified for 29 million-dollars in tax credits by adding jobs and making other investments at its campus in Mount Pleasant. This is the first time Foxconn has qualified for any state aid since it signed a development deal back in 2017. Governor Evers re-wrote the agreement with Foxconn back in the spring to guarantee tax credits for a smaller-than-promised manufacturing facility.

Push to Add To WI Voter Rolls

There’s a push to add more people to Wisconsin’s voter rolls. The League of Women Voters yesterday filed a lawsuit in Madison to have the court force the Wisconsin Elections Commission to reinstate 32 thousand voters who have been deactivated. WEC moved the voters to their ‘inactive’ list because they had not voted in years. It was another court case, brought by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, that pushed WEC to deactivate the voters. The League says the 32-thousand weren’t given proper notice

Flags Lowered in Honor of a WI Security Officer

Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order #149 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff tomorrow, Thurs., Dec. 23, 2021, in honor of Chad P. Omicron Variant Confirmed in All 50 States

All 50 states say they have seen the COVID-19 Omicron variant.  The variant was first detected 22 days ago after being discovered in South Africa less than a month ago.  Omicron cases have also been reported in Washington, DC and Puerto Rico.

Man Arrested in Connection With Drive By Shooting

A man from southwest Wisconsin is arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting near La Crosse.  The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says Wesley Dollar of Boscobel was arrested earlier this week and charged with attempted homicide.  Dollar’s accused of shooting a gun near Cliffview Drive in Holmen over the weekend, hitting a house and injuring one person inside.  He’s being held on 100-thousand dollars bond.

Crime Stoppers Looking for Rib Mountain Thieves

Crime Stoppers is looking for two people accused of stealing from a store in Central Wisconsin.  Crime Stoppers says a couple walked into a dollar store in Rib Mountain back in October and stole a woman’s cell phone and wallet.  Detectives recently released a picture of the suspects.  Anyone with information is asked to call Marathon County Crime Stoppers.

Health Care Students Get Tuition Boost

University of Wisconsin is giving hundreds of dollars to students who work in health care.  Today the university system announced students who are enrolled in the spring 2022 semester, work at least 50 hours in a health care setting, and meet health care and licensing requirements will qualify for a 500 dollar tuition credit.  Students have until the end of March to enroll in the program.

EC Warming Center Seeks Volunteers

The Eau Claire Warming Center will give people experiencing homelessness a place to stay during the day. The Warming Center will start on December 24-26, January 1-2, and each Sunday thereafter from 8-6:30 pm.
