State health officials are urging schools and families to remain vigilant as COVID-19 cases among children are rising. The concern comes from the age group between nine and 13-years-old, which has accounted for over 15-hundred cases during the week of September 12th, and most of them aren’t eligible for the vaccine yet. Officials say when kids get sick from COVID, they spread it to family members, friends and relatives who may not be vaccinated even if they don’t show symptoms

Federal prosecutors are pushing ahead with charges against two of the Afghans at Fort McCoy. The U.S. Attorney’s office is charging one of the men, 20-year-old Bahrullah Noori, with sexual assault of a minor. Investigators say he raped someone under 16. The second man, 32-year-old Mohammad Haroon Imaad, is charged with strangling his wife. Both men are due in court in Madison later today. Police in Fond du Lac are remembering one of their officers and calling his death a ‘line of duty death.’ The city’s police chief says 26-year-old Joseph Kurer died from the coronavirus but didn’t say how or where he caught it. Kurer joined the Fond du Lac Police Department in 2018. The chief is not offering any other specifics about Kurer’s death. His funeral arrangements are pending.

Enrollment is likely down at UW-Eau Claire, but it will be a while before we know just how far down. The university yesterday released its first-day-of-school enrollment figures, and there are more students only at the campuses in Madison, Green Bay, and Superior. That means enrollment is either flat or down. Overall, the university says enrollment fell just one-percent system-wide. The numbers for individual campuses will take a while.

Fort McCoy is Wisconsin’s most vaccinated community. Commanders at the fort yesterday said 97-percent of the Afghans who are living there have gotten their coronavirus shot. They’ve also been vaccinated against the measles and other diseases. There are nearly 13-thousand Afghans staying at Fort McCoy.

There could be two different court-drawn political maps in Wisconsin. The state’s Supreme Court yesterday agreed to take-up a redistricting case that could have them draw the state’s new boundaries for Congress and the state Legislature. The decision comes just one day after a federal court in Madison essentially said it would draw the new political map if lawmakers and Governor Evers can’t agree. A human trafficking investigation in Sheboygan County leads to the arrest of six men.  The County Sheriff’s Office says five of those arrested are from Wisconsin and one is from out of state.  Their names were not released, but the charges include solicitation of prostitutes and pandering.  Numerous agencies assisted the Sheboygan County Sheriff including the Wisconsin State Patrol, the State DOJ and the Elkhart Lake, Kohler, Plymouth, Sheboygan and Sheboygan Falls police departments.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has a list of 122 players who are the modern era nominees for the class of 2022.  The list will be narrowed to 18 finalists with 15 ultimately selected by a Hall of Fame committee prior to the 2022 Super Bowl.  The nominees include former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver, safeties Leroy Butler and Nick Collins and kicker Ryan Longwell.

Golfers from the United States and Europe are putting the finishing touches on their preparations for this year’s 43rd Ryder Cup.  The two rival teams tee off at Whistling Straits on Friday in what is considered golf’s preeminent event.  The Ryder Cup is played every other year and features 12-member teams from the United States and Europe competing in five-match play sessions.  Wisconsin native Steve Stricker is the U.S. Ryder Cup captain and Europe is the current holder of the cup.
