Dane Co. Considers Mental Health Center

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi says the goal of his new Crisis Triage Center is to keep people out of jail. Parisi yesterday outlined his plan to build a new 10 million-dollar facility in Madison. He’s also promising nearly two million-dollars in county money to help run the center. Parisi says getting people help with their mental health needs will help keep them out of the criminal justice system. There’s no word on just where the CTC will be built.

It’s going to be crowded at Eau Claire’s newest grocery store as many are eager to check out the new digs. The Hy-Vee on Clairemont Avenue opens its doors today. It is the newest and largest grocery store in the city. Add Menomonie schools to the list of local schools requiring masks for some students. The city’s school board last night voted to require masks for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade. Push for Lawsuits Against Maskless Schools

Schools across the state that don’t require their kids to wear masks in the classroom could soon be facing a lawsuit. Kirk Bangstad, who ran for state Assembly and lost last year, is looking into suing schools that allow students to choose to wear masks. He says the suit falls under Wisconsin’s public nuisance laws. The city’s school district said it wants to know if board members can use time during the public comment portion of school board meetings to speak. There is some worry it violates Wisconsin’s Open Meetings Act. The conversation comes as school board debate mask policies, and some of those conversations are heated.

WI Inches Toward 70% Vaccination, DHS Announces Booster Option

Wisconsin is inching closer to a major coronavirus vaccination milestone. The state’s Department of Health Service yesterday reported that nearly 70-percent of adults have had one dose of the vaccine. Kleefisch Back on the Trail

The Republican running for governor in Wisconsin is back to running. Rebecca Kleefisch’s campaign yesterday said she is once again on the campaign trail. She canceled her in-person events last week after testing positive for the coronavirus. Kleefisch, who’s been vaccinated, said she felt fine but wanted to be extra-safe. Her first stop was in La Crosse County yesterday at a local health clinic.

Green Bay Parks Get WiFi

The city of Green Bay is going to spend some of its coronavirus stimulus money to add free wifi to four city parks. The city council voted for the idea last night. It’s going to cost about 250-thousand-dollars to add internet at Seymour Park, Navarino Park, Eastman Park, and St. John Park. Alderman Randy Scannell says the wifi is needed at city parks at a time when more people need to be connected than ever before.

Marathon Crosses Fundraising Finish Line

There’s still some counting to do, but it looks like the Eau Claire Marathon raised nearly 30-thousand-dollars for the community. Race director Emi Uelmen says they need to see what they owe for port-a-potties and police officers and the like, but she thinks the final tally will be around 30-grand. All of that money will be donated back to the community. Racers ran the marathon last weekend.
