DMV Extends Deadline For Older Drivers

Older drivers in Wisconsin are getting another extension on their driver’s licenses. The state’s DMV yesterday said drivers who are 60 and older, and whose licenses expire in January, February, or March have until the end of March to get them renewed. Wisconsin’s DMV branches remain closed for the most part, and the state is pushing people to renew their licenses online. Add this to your Packer-fan-bucket-list.  Lays is offering potato chips grown in soil from Lambeau Field.  The company is offering its “Golden Grounds” chips giveaway.  Every NFL team, except the Broncos, Bengals, and Browns, has a set of chips made from potatoes grown in their stadium’s dirt.  The only catch is that you cannot buy the chips in stores.  You have to Tweet at Lays (@Lays) to try and win a bag.  The “Golden Grounds” giveaway runs until January 25th.

Prosecutors File New Charges Against Waukesha Parade Suspect

Darrell Brooks Junior is looking at dozens of more charges for the Waukesha Christmas Parade attack.  Prosecutors in Waukesha yesterday filed 71 new charges of reckless endangerment.  Police say Brooks barreled through the parade in late November, killing six and injuring more than 60 others.  The new charges cover the injuries to people in the parade and those who were watching.  Brooks is already facing life in prison on homicide charges, the new charges each carry a 12-year sentence.  Prosecutors

Firefighter Recovering After Injury at Blaze

An Eau Claire firefighter is recovering after being injured at a fire yesterday afternoon.  The fire broke-out at the apartments at 2524 Boardwalk Circle, that’s on the city’s southeast side. Everyone who lives in the apartments made it out okay.  The city’s fire department says the firefighter suffered minor injuries, but they are not offering specifics.  There’s no word what started the fire.

DNR Investigates Reports of Wolf in EC

Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources isn’t sure there’s a wolf wandering around in Eau Claire.  Somebody took to Facebook to say they saw a wolf near Old Wells Road this week.  The DNR says it’s possible that wolves are in western Wisconsin, but the agency says it’s unlikely that wolves would come so close to people.  If it is a wolf, the DNR says stay away from it and then report back to their office.

ECPD Hiring

They are hiring at the Eau Claire Police Department.  The city yesterday said it needs at least seven officers.  You simply need 60-hours of college classes, as well as the ability to pass the background check, the written test, and the physical test.  Starting pay is about 58-thousand-dollars.  There’s not a lot of time to waste, the city says applications for the open spots are due by Sunday. Group Challenges Aid Program

There is another challenge to another one of Governor Tony Evers’ programs that assigns state aid based on race.  The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty yesterday sent Governor Evers a letter asking his to erase the provision in his Wisconsin Help for Homeowners program that give more help to non-white families.  Under the program, minority families can make about 50-thousand-dollars more than white families and still qualify for housing assistance.  WILL’s Rick Essenberg says it is unconstitutional for the government to hand-out aid

Hospitalizations Set WI Record

More people are in the hospital with the coronavirus in Wisconsin than ever before.  The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said two-thousand-278 people are in the hospital with the virus.  That is one more than Wisconsin’s previous record-high, set back in November of 2020.  The Hospital Association says 488 people are in ICUs across the state.  Nearly all of the cases are omicron cases, which for people who are vaccinated is much less severe than previous strains of the coronavirus.
