WI Spike Over, Hospitalizations Fall

The omicron spike is certainly over in Wisconsin.  The state’s Hospital Association reported another drop in hospitalizations yesterday.  There are now just over 12-hundred people in the hospital with the virus.  That is nearly one thousand fewer than one month ago.  ICUs are less crowded as well.  The Hospital Association says just over 200 people are in the ICU with the virus. MN Students Plan Walkout

Students at several Minneapolis and St. Paul schools are preparing a walkout today, protesting the police shooting of Amir Locke.  Advocacy group MN Teen Activists organized the walkout and has called for others across the state to join in.  A noon rally is planned at St. Paul Central High School, along with a march to the governor’s residence on Summit Avenue in St. Paul.

WI Finishes Strong on World Stage

Team USA is celebrating another top 10 finish in an event after Deedra Irwin placed seventh in the women’s 15km individual biathlon.  The Wisconsin native finished the event in 45:14.1.  Irwin finished a little over one minute after Denise Herrmann of Germany, who claimed the gold medal with her victory.  Three other Americans also competed in the event.  Clare Egan finished 39th, Joanne Reid finished 57th, and Susan Dunklee finished 63rd.

Man Arrested, Police Investigate Wausau Assault

An Afghan refugee resettling in Wausau is accused of sexually assaulting a woman.  Police say the victim told them the man assaulted her in a car last week.  Police say he was arrested this morning and charged with fourth-degree sexual assault.  Police say the victim and the suspect are acquaintances and the victim was helping him settle into the community.

Plump at the Pump Continues

 Gas prices continue to rise in Wisconsin.  Triple-A says the average price for regular unleaded is three-dollars and 20-cents per gallon, that’s up nine-cents from last week and up 20-cents from last month.  In Madison the average is much lower at three-15 a gallon, also up 20-cents over the last month.  Some of the cheapest gas in Wisconsin is in Appleton where the average is 3.10 a gallon.

Titletown Among Tops For Fans

Green Bay is named one of the top U.S. cities for football fans.  WalletHub says Green Bay is the third-best city for football fans.  WalletHub also says Green Bay has the best-performing NFL team, most accessible NFL stadium, and most engaged NFL fans.  Beyond that, WalletHub says the top two football cities are Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Dallas, Texas.

Cheesehead-Over-Heels For Candy Hearts

The numbers are in and the top Valentine’s Day candy in Wisconsin is conversation hearts.  That’s according to candy-store-dot-com, which says Hershey Kisses and Ghirardelli Gift Boxes round out the top three for Wisconsin.  They also say it was 14 years-worth of online bulk candy sales data that lead to the list.

WI Couple Puts the “WI” in WInner!

A married couple from Oneida in Brown County, Tammy and Cliff Webster, have claimed the winning $316.3 million jackpot-winning Powerball ticket sold by Jackson Pointe Citgo in Green Bay earlier this year. The winners opted to take the cash option of $225.1 million rather than annual payments. Menomonie Teen Heads to Scholarship Competition

Menomonie High School senior Alexis Benrud will showcase her growing 1970s-inspired clothing resale business Eunoia Co. in front of a panel of judges to compete for a $10,000 scholarship. It’s part of a Shark Tank-style competition hosted by Junior Achievement of Wisconsin that will take place at Majic Productions in Waukesha, Wisconsin on February 19.
