Night Flights Return to Madison

Madison’s Air National Guard unit will be flying at night this week. The 115th Fighter Wing is once again conducting night training exercises. The flights start tonight and run through Thursday. Commanders say all fights should be wrapped-up by 9 p.m. each night.

Amber Alert Issued, Search Continues

The search for three-year-old Major Harris is now into its fifth day. Police in Milwaukee issued an Amber Alert for him on Saturday, but say he was last seen Thursday. That’s the same day that police found his mother, 25-year-old Mallery Muenzenberger of Onalaska, dead at a home on Milwaukee’s north side. Plan Shrinks Planned New Hires in EC Co.

The latest plan from Eau Claire County leaders is to cut the number of new hires at the Department of Human Services in half. County supervisor on Friday voted to hire just six new people for the department, as opposed to the 12 that County Administrator Kathryn Schauf suggested. Supervisors say there was just too much overlap with the 12 new hires. Hiring just six new workers would also save the county money.

DHS Revises Numbers

Far fewer people are getting sick after getting the coronavirus shot in Wisconsin than first reported. The MacIver News Service over the weekend said Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services revised its illness after vaccination numbers down by 60 percent. DHS had reported breakthrough infections of 61 per-100 thousand back in February. The revision changed that to just 21 per 100-thousand. Crews to Clean Local Cemeteries

Crews are heading to Lakeview and Forest Hill cemeteries this week for their annual cleaning. Eau Claire asked people to get any personal items from the graves over the weekend. Any flowers or such will either be donated or thrown away. The city’s parks department says you can return next week and leave new flowers or personal mementos.

WI Public Schools See Drop in Enrollment

Public schools in Wisconsin continue to lose students. The state’s Department of Public Instruction released enrollment figures for the state on Friday, they show an overall half-a-percent drop in the number of students. That’s far less than last year’s three-percent drop, but larger than the decline in enrollment from before the coronavirus outbreak began. WI DNR Board Looking To Lawyer-Up

The back-and-forth over Wisconsin’s DNR board and the state’s wolf hunt is not easing. The board, which is still run by a Governor Walker appointee, is going to meet today and could hire outside lawyers to represent it in the coming legal fight over Wisconsin’s wolf hunt. U.S Coast Guard to Honor Former Packer

A newly commissioned U.S. Coast Guard ship is named after a former Green Bay Packer. On Friday, the USCGC Emlen Tunnell was commissioned in Philadelphia.  Coast Guard Admiral Karl Schultz said Tunnell is being remembered for his heroism when he saved the lives of two Coast Guard men on the high seas, one during and the other after World War Two. After the war, Tunnell played for the Packers and the New York Giants.  He is the first black player
