Voters Could See Ballot Request for Tax Bump

Voters in Eau Claire could see a ballot question this year asking to raise their taxes.

The city council last night began the conversation about a referendum question on the November ballot. No one is saying just how much the city is looking to get. Eau Claire finance director Jay Winzenz says Wisconsin’s rules that stop local governments from just raising taxes have stopped Eau Claire from finding more money to spend. Council member Kate Beaton says there is ‘no more fat to cut’ in the city budget.
