Wisconsin lawmakers are heading back to the Wisconsin Capitol, but it’s unclear if they will do anything about the state’s election system. State Rep. Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalizations are up a bit. The state’s Hospital Association on Friday said just over 17 hundred people are in the hospital with the virus. That’s about a hundred since the week before. There are, however, fewer people in the ICU. The Hospital Association reports there are just under 400 people in intensive care units across the state. There’s a plea to stay out of the emergency room for non-emergencies. Public health managers say people need to get a coronavirus test at a dedicated testing facility, not in the emergency room. Jamie Lucas, the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals, says people are clogging an already overloaded healthcare system when they use the ER for tests.  Milwaukee is starting 2022 where it left-off in 2021. Police say 12 people were shot on either New Year’s Day or yesterday, two of them died. One died during an argument at about 1:15 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The other death was a 16-year-old girl who was shot and killed last night. There is one suspect in custody for the string of shootings that rang-in 2022 in Madison. Police arrested a 39-year-old man who they say was firing a rifle at about 12:45 a.m. New Year’s Day in the 2500 block of Calypso Road, that’s on the city’s west side. There are no other suspects in the two other shootings in the city on New Year’s Eve. There’s no indication that any of the shootings are connected.

Investigators say it looks like something punctured a pressurized container, and that sparked the explosion on Friday that killed two people and sent two others to the hospital in Shawano County. It happened at a garage in the Town of Lessor. The explosion ripped part of the building off, and damaged the building next door. No one is sure just what kind of work was being done just before the explosion.

Kids in Milwaukee Public Schools will be learning from home for at least the next week because of the spike in coronavirus cases. The district yesterday said it plans to have kids learn from home until next Monday.  The path to the Super Bowl once again goes through Lambeau Field. The Packers clinched the top spot in the NFC playoffs with last night’s win over the Minnesota Vikings. Green Bay easily won, 37-10. The win guarantees Green Bay a first round bye, and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Faion Hicks won’t be returning to Camp Randall next year. The stand-out cornerback has declared for the NFL draft. Hicks has started nearly every game for Wisconsin during his career. He’s the latest member of the defense to move-on from the school. Hicks has 108 tackles during his time as a Badger.

A WI State Trooper and Burnett County Deputies responded to a one vehicle crash with three occupants on Highway 35 at Godfrey Lake Road. The vehicle was traveling south on Highway 35, failed to negotiate a curve properly and left the roadway. The vehicle was pinned against a tree and fire department and EMS personnel on scene had to remove the driver from the vehicle. Speed was a factor in the crash.
