De Pere Trail Attack Suspect Ordered To Stand Trial

The suspect who allegedly attacked a woman on a trail in De Pere will stand trial.  Authorities say 17-year-old Miles Cruz appeared in court today to face charges of attempted homicide and sexual assault.  The attack happened October 5th on the East River Trail. The defense motion to dismiss the attempted homicide charge was denied.

Deputy Ill in Otagamie Co.

A deputy with the Outagamie Sheriff’s Office remains critically ill with COVID-19.  Deputy Channing Pompa entered the hospital in late September and shortly after was transferred out of state to receive more advanced care.  He is currently sedated and on advanced life support.  Deputy Pompa joined the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office in 2020 after serving in the Air Force for over a decade.

Rittenhouse Jury to Review Drone Footage

The jurors in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse have more questions.  They want to see drone footage of the Rittenhouse shootings, and Judge Bruce Schroeder says he wants no restrictions on the viewing. But the judge did say he will hear from the defense and prosecution and decide how long the jury can watch.  The defense claims the footage was withheld from them by the prosecution and they’ve filed a mistrial motion.  The judge is allowing the jurors to watch

Zoo’s Begin to Vaccinate

It’s shots in paws at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Zoo managers yesterday started vaccinating some of the zoo’s big cats and other animals. Only some of the zoo’s two thousand animals will get the shot, and it will take weeks to vaccinate them. There are no reports of any animals at the zoo coming down with the virus, though there are reports from other zoos about animals there contracting COVID-19.

Back to Work for Rittenhouse Jury

Kyle Rittenhouse’s jury will try for a verdict once again today. The jury of five men and seven women worked until about 5:30 yesterday before heading home for the day. The jury asked just two questions, both were requests for the jury instructions. The jury will get back to work again this morning. They are weighing homicide charges against Rittenhouse. No Charges for Local Charity Leader

There won’t be changes coming soon against the former head of a local children’s charity. Eau Claire County’s D.A. yesterday said he’s not going to push for charges against Joe Luginbill. Police investigated Luginbill for over a year surrounding allegations that he misspent donations to his children’s foundation on himself. The D.A.’s office yesterday said unless new evidence comes forward, they are not going to press ahead with the case. No one is saying what is lacking in the investigation,

EC Fees Could See Bump

The City of Clear Water could soon see some clear price hikes. City leaders are looking to increase dozens of fees in the new city budget. Finance Director Jay Winzenz calls the fee increases ‘average,’ and says they mostly cover the city’s costs. Many of the fees pay for inspections or licenses, though there are some new fees. One of the new costs would charge people to turn-on the fire feature at the Haymarket Plaza.

Lawmakers Stir the Pot Debate

The latest marijuana proposal out of the Wisconsin Capitol would not legalize pot in the state. It would, however, make it less-illegal. Republican state Rep. Shae Sortwell and Democratic state Rep. Sylvia Ortiz-Valez yesterday introduced their new plan. It would classify possession of a half-ounce or less of marijuana as a ticketable offense, and change the law to classify possession of up to an ounce as a misdemeanor.
