Green Bay Police Investigate Late Night Shooting’s

Police in Green Bay are trying to figure out if three shootings yesterday are related, or are related to other recent shootings in the city. All three shootings happened within an hour of each other last night. No one was hurt in any of the shootings. Investigators are not saying if they are related, though they did all happen in the same area of the city. Police are asking anyone who knows anything to please come forward.

WI School Budget Back and Forth Continues

 Wisconsin’s state superintendent is telling the Republicans who wrote the state budget that they’ve lost the ‘game of chicken’ over millions of dollars in money for schools that stayed open last year. Superintendent Jill Underly wrote a defiant letter to the heads of the legislature’s budget writing panel yesterday. She blamed them for a standoff over 77 million-dollars in coronavirus money for schools, accused them of not following the law, and accused them of playing politics. Underly’s letter is in

Tuition Hike Hits Some UW Campuses

 Tuition is going-up for some UW students. University regents yesterday gave the green light to tuition increases for out-of-state and graduate students at UW-Madison, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls, UW-Stout, and UW-Whitewater. Regents will take the official vote on the plan to raise out-of-state student tuition by 743 dollars today.  Right now, out-of-state students pay about 39 thousand-dollars a year for tuition at UW-Madison, compared to the nearly 11 thousand-dollars in tuition for in-state students.

WI Voter ID Law Holds for Students

College students in Wisconsin are going to have to continue to bring a valid ID with them when they vote. A federal judge in Madison yesterday upheld Wisconsin’s voter ID law for college students. The lawsuit wanted to change some of the requirements for what’s considered a valid college ID. But the judge said college student IDs are no different than other forms of ID, and should not be held to a different standard.

WI Hospitalizations Steady

Wisconsin is ending the week with over 16 hundred people in the hospital with the coronavirus. The state’s Hospital Association yesterday said the numbers haven’t changed much this week. There continue to be over 400 people in ICU’s across the state. Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalization numbers are up by over 160 people from last week. The Hospital Association does not track who is hospitalized with the virus, as opposed to those who are hospitalized because of it.

Another Day on the Midway

They are adding a day to the Northern Wisconsin State Fair. Fair manager Rusty Volk yesterday said they are adding Tuesday to the fair schedule, which means the fair will now last six days. The 2022 Northern Wisconsin State Fair is set to run from Tuesday, July 12th til Sunday, July 17th. Volk says the success of the fair is driving the decision to add the extra day. He says over 100 thousand people went to this year’s fair, he’s hoping for a similar

Think of it as a pub crawl, with cheese. The folks at Visit Eau Claire yesterday announced plans for a first ‘Curd Crawl’ in the city. It’s virtual, curd lovers sign-in on an app. Visit Eau Claire says 18 different spots in the city have signed-up for the crawl so far. If you visit four, you get a sticker that says ‘I crawled for curds in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.’ If you visit eight different places you get a t-shirt.

Travel Resumes After Threats in Marshfield

The Marshfield Police Department had responded to a residence in the area of Popp Avenue from Mann Street to Spencer Street in reference to an individual making homicidal statements. The individual has been taken into custody without incident and the area is now clear fornormal travel. The Marshfield Police Department would like to thank the Wood County Sherriff’s Department, the Marathon County Sherriff’s Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol for their assistance in this matter.

Trail Assault Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

A suspect accused of attacking a woman on the East River Trail in Green Bay pleads not guilty to five felony charges.  Miles Cruz appeared for his arraignment in Brown County Court today.  Among the charges he is facing are attempted first-degree homicide, sexual assault, kidnapping, strangulation and suffocation.  Cruz allegedly assaulted a woman in October while was walking with her four-week-old baby.
