MKE Marks Deadliest Year

Whatever the final tally is, Milwaukee County’s medical examiner says 2021 will be a record-year for deaths. The Medical Examiner’s Office yesterday said there have been 220 homicides in Milwaukee County so far. Most of those, 192, have come in the city of Milwaukee. Locations Renamed in WI

More than two dozen sites in Wisconsin with Indian names are about to get new names. The Department of the Interior is in the process of renaming hundreds of sites across the country with Indian references or slurs in their names. There are 28 places in Wisconsin on that list, all of them with the word squaw in their name. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland says racism shouldn’t be on the map in this country.

Co-Op’s Coming Together

The Chippewa Valley’s food co-op merger is on track to happen in the new year. The Menomonie Market Food and Just Local Food stores are set to join sometime after January 1st. WI Health Officials Back New Advice

There’s no pushback from Wisconsin’s public health managers to the change in coronavirus quarantine rules. State Health Secretary Karen Timberlake yesterday said she supports the new five-day quarantine policy. Timberlake says studies show five days is enough to protect most people. Timberlake also said people should continue to get coronavirus tests if they don’t feel well. That advice comes as many cities across the state are seeing long lines and long waits at their testing sites.

Badgers Set for Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off

The Badgers are headed to finals of the first ever Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off.  Wisconsin’s men’s hockey team beat Yale 3-2 in overtime last night to win their way into the final game. The Badgers lost a lead late in the game, but scored the winning goal a little over two minutes into OT. Wisconsin will take-on 16th-ranked Providence for the championship later tonight.

Gov. Evers Sets Pardon Record

Governor Tony Evers  now has the most pardons for any Wisconsin governor.  Evers announced 30 new pardons Tuesday, bringing the total for his administration to 337.  Previous Governor Scott Walker didn’t grant any pardons during his eight years in office.

Kwik Trip Hits Sweet Milestone

Kwik Trip is set to open its 800th location this week in west-central Wisconsin.  The store will be in Holmen, in the 17-hundred block of Temte Street near Highways 53 and 35.  Kwik Trip says the store will open at five o’clock Thursday morning.  It’ll be nine-thousand square feet and include a car wash and grocery market.

Madison Hospitals Pushed by Coronavirus Cases

Hospitals in Madison say they’re close to becoming overwhelmed because of the Omicron coronavirus variant.  University of Wisconsin Health released a statement today saying it’s struggling to deal with the number of patients its seeing.  Coronavirus hospitalizations are actually down at Madison hospitals from earlier this month.  As of Sunday 110 patients are in Madison and Dane County hospitals with the virus, down from 133 earlier this month.

Chippewa County Health Officials Confirm MIS-C Cases

The Chippewa County Department of Public Health has confirmed two cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) associated with COVID-19 in Chippewa County. The children are between three and twelve years old.
